Fingers crossed that won't happen as I haven't had any claims before. Was hoping someone has gone through it with them and can tell me. To be honest I'm pretty sure I'll start the policy but wanted to check for horror stories first.

I used them a couple of times until I called with a problem and was spoken to rudely by the CS agent telling me that the problem was my own fault and to pay £75! There was no reasoning with him, he was blunt and insisted that I paid. I would not go back because of this, okay it may be a one off but what kind of training do they get? This was not a young person... Your choice but I would say look elsewhere.

Hasting are a reputable insurer, Hasting basic is just that a very basic no frills policy, You will need to check what you are covered for and if it has everything you need. I think with the basic policy if you have to replace your windscreen then you will be liable for the full excess which is £200 or £300 which is a lot and also you will lose your no claims if you have to claim for windscreen replacement.

Hastings are just brokers like most " Insurance companies " The policy will be underwritten . There wont be any problems with the actual insurance . You'll just have to trust the customer service is good - as previously stated you only find that out if and when you need the insurance .
You've done the right thing , never accept a renewal quote , always check around for a quote , then see if your present insurer will match it . Don't forget Quidco compare , there are some pretty hefty cashbacks available on there to bring the cost down .

I have had a similar and very bad experience with Express Insurance and have since resigned myself to that fact that car insurance companies have the worst customer service ever once they have your money!

I'm fine with basic, I'm a no frills kind of person haha. Plus a quick google search brought up the windscreen excess and NCB issue.

I started off going through quidco/top cash back. Is there a way to combine these two sites? One will give me £20 cash back and the other £28.

Thanks for all your replies!

I'm not sure actually. I think it is.

Call up your existing insurance and tell them you've found it cheaper. Most will usually try and price match it for you.

I rang up to cancel the automatic renewal and went thought all the new quote info and they couldn't match it.

Use a high street broker for better service and advice. I pay around £30 more for my insurance but from my experience the help given when I need to claim or when I got a letter saying I have been in a accident I knew nothing about. If however you just want a peace of paper to say your insured at the cheapest price go online or phone around.

my husband swears by Hastings Direct. He won't go anywhere else, he is a no frills type of guy and doesn't shop around so not sure if his is the best endorsement!

I had a this policy 2 years ago and discovered that it didn't have windscreen cover after half a brick destroyed my screen. My fault as I didn't read the small print. If this is still the case, avoid.
As to customer service, I found them OK, but no better than average.

Thanks very much for your replies. I will be joining Hastings once my NCB comes through which should be in the next day or two :)
