Headphones for Xbox 360

I am looking for some large headphones for the Xbox 360. I have AudioFx headphones for my PC and they are fantastic!

http://blog.tmcnet.com/blog/tom-keating/images/audiofx.jpg

Is it possible to get anything similar to them? The closest I have found are these headphones below? Are their any better quality ones available such as AudioFx, Sennheiser, Sony something along those lines?

http://www.riverstreams.co.uk/images/uploads/xbox360commanderg.jpg

These are available from riverstreams.co.uk for £10.00 or £11.00 delivered but not sure on the quality of them.

I take it the headphones go into the back of the Xbox 360?

Any help would be appreciated for my late night gaming sessions!

(I don't have many due to my business but I would like the ones I do have to be good ones!) Cheers!

The headphones connect into the handheld controller........

Its possible that your existing pc headphones will fit the jack socket on the controller so you could carry on using those. The only disadvantage with this is the normal xbox headphones have a mute button and volume control at the point where it plugs into the controller so you won't have those options.....

I haven't seen any other larger headphones other than the ones you've already found (Communicator?).

I should point out that what you hear through the headphones is dialogue from other players not sound effects from the game. If you plug your phones straight into the tv you would get the sound effects but not hear dialogue from other players...

You can also get an official wireless one (like a bluetooth headset).

Hi,

Thanks for the help I appreciate it.

I assumed I would hear everything through the Xbox 360 for some reason. Not sure why!

I don't play much online (at least not at night) so I will try the Audio Fx headphones in the tv. If they fit then I will buy another pair because that would save going backwards and forwards etc. They are quality headphones and I would recommend them to anyone.

I have seen the wireless headphones but not too impressed with those. I was looking for something with a bit more quality.

I appreciate the help mate!

I play at night so can't have the tv too loud - it would be great to have the dialogue and sound effects through the headphones.

It is useful to hear the dialogue for team based games like Call of Duty 3 etc as you can get warnings from team mates...

If the jack of your headphones doesn't fit your telly you can easily pick up jack plug adaptors....

Yeah that would be great, almost like playing online on the pc. With the AudioFx headphones you can hear everything going on, when playing on the PC.

If I could get that on the 360 I would be very happy!

To be honest the tv I use is a Hanspree and I still haven't found the audio sockets! :giggle:

I have a feeling they are around the back and I have a corner unit so it's a bit awkward. They have the scarts and component cables on the side it's a shame they didn't put the audio sockets in a handy place too! :giggle:

The tv is quite loud even on a 9 or 10 setting. Will try the headphones and let you know how I get on.

Those little beauties look like just the thing I have been looking for! I will wait for those to be released I think!

They look very similar to the AudioFx headphones. I am sold on them already!

:-D

Is it me or do the Triton headphones sound more impressive? :?

Also I like the idea of having an extended warranty on them too. Any uk supplier for the Triton headphones?

Then again £40.00 for the others is a good deal. I might go with those.. not sure though!

Just bought the turtles. The look the business actually, just what I was looking for.

I really liked the look of the Triton ones too and I think they would have been even more similar to the AudioFx headphones I have but I think the turtle headphones will really take off over here when they are available.

Perfect for late night gaming! Did you order a pair yourself? :-D

In the options of the guide menu you can set the voice to come out of the TV. Well, you dont even need to do that, just unplug the headphones and the voice comes out of the tv speakers. The only problem is that way you cant communicate with other players. But you can hear them.

The solution is then to fix the microphone off the original 360 headset (the wireless one should be easier) to your existing headset.

Its all quite complicated but it is possible.

Oh that sounds good! Cheers. I didn't know you could do so much with the tv.

Only problem is I just ordered a pair of the turtle headphones so hopefully I will receive those soon!

These new headphones will make everything much easier and straight forward. It's only a matter of time before Microsoft themselves offer some premium headphones isn't it? And probably charge about £60.00?

I will let you know what the Turtle Beach headphones are like. I bought those last night for £45.00 delivered. The other option was to get the Triton/Shark headphones but they were £30.00 more and the Turtle Beach headphones are basically made for the 360.

There's a whole load of swearing, rapping, whinging and utter tripe that comes out of the voice channel......not sure if you want that blaring out your tv....

There is a place in the UK that does the Sharkoon/Tritton ones for £65 or I could order some of the new Ear Force ones from the US. I'll probably have a look at some surround sound headphones (like Cyberhome) which can be got for around £30 and see if they can be adapted.

Thanks for raising this topic - let us know how you get on with the Ear Force x1

Yeah I can imagine it could get a bit heated at night! Don't really want that blaring out at 1am no!

Well I thought about the Tritton ones but they just seemed much more expensive. I really think the Turtle Bay headphones are made with the 360 in mind rather than it being an after thought so I am looking forward to trying them.

I have gone for the wired version though because I sit pretty close anyway (almost over the 32" hannspree) so I don't mind being wired up.

Not sure how long the cable is but they are usually pretty generous. I suppose now I could setup the 360 on the bravia downstairs. Then again I kind of like sitting on the end of the bed it's well comfy! :giggle:

I appreciate the help mate because I was very close to buying the large Microsoft ones. I would have been dissapointed with those, I wonder how long it will be before Microsoft realises they can make more money from headphones? :giggle:

Not long I bet! I will let you know how I get on with the Turtle Bay headphones. I have been impressed with the videos I have seen so they should do the trick! :-D

I will let you know how I get on..

I see, im surprised MS has not made these themselves yet.

edit: just found out they have brought out Turtle Beach X3 which are wireless.

Wireless & Non Wireless maybe?

Seems to be a big difference in price. I went for the Wired to save on batteries, at least until they release a battery pack you can charge.

The wires are very long anyway so I don't see that being a problem. It's not like your going to strangle yourself on it is it? :giggle:

I am amazed that Microsoft haven't released something similar. They will probably buy them out!

Have a read here..

That should tell you. I am 99% sure they do though.

Had a quick search, sadly your link didnt work but it appears that they are "Perfectly suited for the use with a HiFi system and DVD player as well as PC and the latest game consoles, such as XBox® 360 and PlayStation® 2".

They certainly look nice.

Yeah I was tempted with those but I really think the Turtle Bay ones are great for the price. I might consider the other ones for the pc once my AudioFx headphones go. Not sure if they ever will though!

Sorry about the link it's

I was tempted by the Turtle Beach headphones but they dont seem to offer a way to adjust the voice chat volume unless you get the x3 set. Which I can't find for sale anywhere in the UK :x

So I figured the Sharkoon ones where better value for money as they are wirless and 5.1 surround sound.

Will be interested in your thoughts of the x1 set when you get them Stevie and if the chat volume is a big issue.
[helper]#23
The main criticism of the Tritton/Sharkoon is that voice/chat sometimes gets drowned out by the game audio, making it difficult to hear. The other downside which is common to most headphones is that when you talk with the headphones on you talk much louder. The sharkoon ones are not wireless....

The Ear Force x3 have the advantage of being wireless and having voice feedback so that you can hear yourself speaking. It has "expanded stereo" but no 5.1 sound. Unfortunately there isn't an official supplier of the Ear Force in the UK (that I can find). I've found some posts that recommended using Provantage in the US.
The x1 (corded) would cost about £40 (plus possible import taxes)
The x2 (wireless) would cost about £45 (plus possible import taxes)
The x3 (latest wireless) would cost about £60 (plus possible import taxes) or about £52 each if you order two
http://www.provantage.com/voyetra-tbs-2065~7VOYE02M.htm
You would also need to purchase a UK power supply for the IR transmitter of the X2 and x3 (outputting 9V 0.66 A)

All the details for the Turtle Beach products (including video) are here

Thanks for the correction Gari.

I am right in thinking that the x1 has no way to adjust the chat volume independent of the game volume?
[helper]#25
It does mention that game audio and chat volume can be controlled seperately. If you look at the diagram in post 16 you'll see it labelled just next to the controller.....
Still very tempted by the x3 but I think I'll phone Customs & Excise and check how much the import tarriff will be.....
Cheers

Only the X1's available from eBay at the moment but I am happy with those. I have enough wireless things so don't mind using a wire for the headphones.

The seller seems to be selling them in bulk so probably won't send them out until they are all sold. Makes sense but they could have sent them out individually as they got the orders..

I sent a message to the guy who is selling the x1's on ebay and he said he would get hold of the x3's but they will cost £65 + p+p. They would also need an adapter for use in the UK. Also would be a wait of about 3-4 weeks on them.

I just wanted to know how that stacked up against the link Gari posted

Customs say the duty for headphones is 2% and then you have your vat of 17.5% to add on. So you're looking at 20%.....

So £60 plus £12 tax/vat plus about £1.50 handling charge for customs from DHL. I reckon it'd be about £73 for the X3. You'd have to buy a power adaptor from Maplins or somewhere...

I'm still looking at other options like the Philips SHG8100 http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/116420

I sometimes think this is even more difficult than buying a new telly...as you can probably tell I don't have a bloody clue what I going to get!

They should send them out as they get purchased - there is absolutely no reason why they can't send them out now. It could be weeks before they've sold them all....

I'd ask for them to send them out now. You've paid for them (presumably)....

Hi,

They arrived on friday so not too bad! So far so good for me. I have been playing Skate non stop since getting the headphones and I have to say they are fantastic quality wise.

With the wires it's a little bit fiddly at first. The instructions are very clear though so it's quite straight forward once you get used to setting the wires up. Basically you get a red, white component adapter (also green) which you plug into the appropriate components (red, white, green).

Inside the box is a USB extension cable so you don't have to worry about the USB not being long enough. They give you about 10m of cable! (and a cable tie thank god!) :giggle:

Volume switch is very handy, you can also turn the mic on and off at a flick of a switch near the volume switch. The headphones are comfortable for at least 2 - 3 hours. Of course with bigger headphones you do feel them on your ears after this kind of time but it's more than enough comfort wise. I am happy with that!

The sound quality for sound effects and music is 1st class in my opinion. They are probably not as clear as the AudioFx headphones (PC) I have but then again perhaps the sound is different in Xbox 360 games. I would say I am very happy with the headphones, they look the business and sound the business for me.

The company I purchased them from (Lime 360 Party Gaming) seemed very good, their was a wait of 3-4 days but I don't mind that. They seem very pleasant and punctual so I would advise anyone to go for these X1's if they can't wait for the wireless.

I haven't tried the mic online yet but I plan to do this sometime this week. I will keep you all updated with the mic and how it sounds.

Overall I am very impressed with the headphones. On the Hannspree tv you may have to press the mute button to get the sound to channel through the headphones, I played around for ages wondering why no sound but it seems on this tv you need to press mute. It might be different on other tv's?

10/10 for me!

I am sure they will release these headphones worldwide before long. It makes sense to do it before christmas too.
