My daughter(who is 7) is having a fancy dress competition at school next Thursday, and they have to go in as a character from a book for World Book Week.

Alot of the kids have been talking about Horrid Henry and HSM, so I wanted to do something different, but it's on a very tight budget.

Any idea's??????

Thanx in advance

I saw a girl at my daughter's school go as this book character once and I've been waiting for my daughter to need the outfit ever since. She went as Rapunzel and had a simple long aline dress on which could be made from a sheet or wear a princess dress if she has one. Then someone had made a REALLY long plait out of wool that was attached to a headband and tied to her hair that reached the floor and a pointy hat on top. My friend pinched the idea for her daughter and attached the plait to the point of the hat which you might prefer as at least your daughter can take it off rather than sitting on it all day!!

Hi My DS has the same next week. I'd forgotten about it, until I saw your post - so a big thanks from me!

I am going to take a look at the books in his bedroom now and see what we can muster up. I am thinking about a Mr Man Character or a character from Dr Seuss for him.

Maybe you could consider a Little Miss.

Whatever the costume is, it has to be practical so that they can move about!

Another witch idea is the witch from " Room on the Broom", a fab book, she has a long plait with a red ribbon in the end of it. Still prefer Rapunzel idea though as people know straight away who she is due to the floor length plait.

Little Miss Whoops!

Blue clothes and a few bandages.

Also if you could buy the book and read it, she could carry it around during the day. It would give something different to talk about.

My son did this a few years ago, he went as Lumiere from Beauty & the Beast ( a bit of a cheat I know as he isn't in the original book) but I found some yelow trousers cheap in SPorts & soccer, he had a yellow tshirt which we decorated to look like a candlestick and we made flames from tissue paper. He looked really good and he was unique amongst all the Harry Potters.
