Help find Xbox package for 10 year old boy

Have bought a holiday static caravan and said 10 year old son can have an xbox there.

The caravan has no internet access but he may bring the xbox home over xmas etc where we have access.

We only have a ps2 and wii at home and he has outgrown the games we have for ps2 and has played "older style" games on friends xbox.

Do I buy an arcade package or an elite package?

I would think a package deal would be better as we currently have no games, I guess we also need a second controller for his friends.

The xbox world confuses me and I see so many deals I don't know what would be best to start out with.

Any advice on best buys would be great.

Many thanks.

Hi Claire

It all depends on your budget & if your son will play it online, or just with his friends when they are round!

you can get the basic arcade model brand new for around £140, or the elite for about the £200 mark, both I should be able to find you good deals on with games included.

There are also 20/60gig pro versions, which are being phased out, but these are more likely to suffer from overheating problems.

The elite is most peoples choice, coming with everything he'd need straight out the box, but the acade can be upgraded later with a hard drive, if he decided he wanted to play online.

I'd imagine if he's only 10, then perhaps an arcade.

Here are some useful links to compare prices & choose which type of games bundle you think he'd like:

Hope that helps, let me know if you need any other advice!

Many thanks, which do you think is a better deal ? Also do all xbox games play on the arcade model or is the choice more limited?

Why are some games called classic please, is this a better type of game?

I am not so much worried about the cost but just want the best deal for him starting out, ie getting games in a bundle.

On Argos there is Arcade plus Sega Superstars Tennis plus;
Halo 3: Master Chief returns to finish the fight, bringing the epic conflict between the Covenant, the Flood and the entire human race to a dramatic climax.

Halo Wars: A true, next generation strategic experience combined with a masterful control system for award-winning gameplay.

Forza 2: Buckle up for authentic simulation physics, bone-jarring damage and photo-realistic graphics, with over 300 cars to collect, personalise and race.

Hey, ALL XBOX 360 games play on both consoles, the main difference between the 2 is that the elite comes with a 120gig hard drive, which is useful for burning games onto & downloading demos, add ons etc.

The arcade is a more basic model, which comes with either 256MB or 512MB memory, which is only enough for games saves normally.

CLASSIC games, are older games that have sold alot of copys in the past, normally some of the most popular on the console, they then re-issue them out as classic versions for a lower price, so that everyone can get a chance to play them, i.e if you missed them the first time round.

As he's only 10, I'd imagine most of the said games you mentioned might be a bit too advanced.

They're both good deals though, I guess it boils down to what sort of games he likes to play?

Many thanks again.

It depends on what your kid likes i would be he could like Fifa 10, i think on HUKD there is a deal involving ODST and FIFA 10 etc.. so look out for them but anywho on console i would say for you it would be better buying the elite, looks nicer in black :p, it has a better realiability report than the arcade so it's less likely to die, and with the Hard Drive he can download demos so if he cant afford games if he has more room he can download more demos to keep him happy. although the arcade isnt bad he will overpass the Memory Card and then you will have to buy a HDD anywho. so back to the package this one looks better Xbox 360 Elite + Fifa 10 + Halo ODST @ Currys £199.99 BUT they are doing this deal at Argos for maybe cheaper and ALSO you will get vouchers back around 20 quid which makes it even cheaper :-D, tbh having a package with with 2 good games he will enjoy is better than having just ODST and some crappy games, THE only thing this package is missing is a HDMI cable but you can get a cheap one online for like under 5 quid  hope it helps.
