What's your budget?

I have a Nokia 5800 and it fits most, if not all, of your requirements. I love it

Can be had for about £100 second hand now as well

An android phone, something like the HTC Hero/Tattoo etc. Pretty much fit your bill...

Was going to suggest the HTC Hero myself, great phone and fits the bill, theres even an app to read your texts back to you (so long as people dont use txt spk).

I have CoPilot 8 on mine as a sat nav and evrything just simply works like a dream

T-mobile instore were offering the Hero for £25/month on an 18 month contract. Unlimited internet, 300 texts and 300mins. Plus you get a booster, such as unlimited texts, or unlimited landline calls etc, that can be changed month by month. Decent deal imo.

There's other android phones on the way (google Motorola Milestone), but they way HTC phones are at the moment I don't think you'll beat them...

I have the Hero and the build quality feels solid, have a silicon case on it and screen protector, but it just gets chucked in my pocket with coins and keys, Ive dropped it a few times too and its took it. Its thin but doesnt feel cheap or twist like some do. The touchscreen is fantastic to use on it. I have chunky sausage fingers but its accurate still.

One thing to point out is it doesnt have radio inbuilt, but I have a 16gb card in mine so putting my music on is no problem and its a simple drag and drop process, the computer see's it as an external storage device rather than phone so no need for clucky software on it. My only gripe for me is that you can't send contacts via bluetooth.

Yeah, my cousins got one and you're right, the build quality does feel solid compared to some of the plasticky phones about these days. Had a play with it and I think I'll be getting one at the weekend myself...

Go for it, have a look at rooting it (allows none market place apps to be installed from the memory card) it will also unlock it if locked to network. There are literally hundreds of apps available out there for it, trouble is choosing which ones!
