Help me build a PC (please)?

Using http://www.ebuyer.com and with a budget of £450, i was hoping to build a decent PC capable of at least running Crysis on med/high and Stalker on high, my only requests are;

At least 500gb hard drive
I already have a SB audigy soundcard, so am sure that will do fine
Quite quiet noise-wise

Not interested in overclocking etc, just would like to run decent games...

No operating system, so add another £70 to that price that's already over your budget. Plus the seller is lying about the clockspeed and trying to claim it's 9.6Ghz.

Something like the Fujitsu from Argos has a similar spec though.

The Q6600 is good value for money at the moment.

But the one i posted had 2 graphics cards, isnt that a lot better?

Not terribly, in some games SLI has been noted to actually slow performance.

so the argos one is probably better?

what about if i stretched to this one; http://www.palicomp.co.uk/Kinetic_AMD_BaseGTX98_Customize.html

Comes with 8gb ram and 64bit vista

Seriously, you don't need 8GB of RAM.
I'm going along just fine with 3GB, and that includes some heavy gaming!
You just won't even notice the difference after about 4.

I wouldn't go for that, it has an AMD which can't compete with Intel processors.

Does it? I can't see any mention of two graphics cards on the page, it does throw the SLI abbreviation about a lot but without an actual statement that it contains two graphics cards I would assume it's just SLI support rather than an actual SLI setup.

As willi says, phenoms can't compete at the moment. They're not bad processors and aren't that much slower so would be a good deal if they were cheaper, but for the same price the Q6600 or intel's dual cores are the clear choice to go for right now.

There are AM2 and AM2+ sockets and there is some sort of slowdown running the latest AM2+ processors on AM2 sockets, given the age of the motherboard chipset in the palitcomp system I'd definitely look into that.

8GB of ram isn't needed right now, so as you're on such a tight budget you may want to save the money and put it elsewhere.

Vista64 should definitely be high up your shopping list if you can get it and the graphics card is a decent choice (ATI's 4850 is faster, but the Geforce has a couple of other advantages like PhysX and better Linux support).

So you all recommend the argos one?

It is missing a couple of things that would have been nice like Vista 64-bit but It does seem fairly good value for money, you certainly wouldn't get it much cheaper if you built it yourself.

You could look at the Dell Q6600 2GB from tesco which is £300 with no graphics card, but it may need a new power supply for a decent graphics card so it wouldn't work out that much cheaper once you'd upgraded that and the memory, although it would give you the choice of which graphics card to get.

The argos one is 64bit isnt it?

It didn't mention it so I assumed it wasn't.

Argos doesnt have them in stock anywhere, so any other ideas?
