£480 is overpriced but if you can get the Acer for £405, that's not a bad price. I doubt you'll find anything of that spec any cheaper at present although it might be worth checking PCWorld's refurbs.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a 15/16" laptop at present. Dell and a few other manufacturers are beginning to push the ultra low voltage (sort of poor mens' Macbook Airs :-D ). The likelihood is that these lighter laptops will become the norm within the next 6 months or so and the bulkier laptops will gradually disappear. So, I would expect the price of these to start falling soon after Christmas as the manufacturers attempt to get rid of their old stock.

Of course, I could be wrong, but I can't imagine that an Acer like this will sell for much over £350 by the end of January 2010. It's a question of how quickly you want one.

When I say try Dell I mean try the Dell Outlet. You can pick up some decent specced machines there with some good reductions. They normally have some sort of offer on as well such as free delivery or £xx off. Bought 2 machines from there and both have been good. Admittedly the hard drive went on the laptop inside the guarantee and had no problems getting an engineer to come and replace the drive.

Hope this helps you.

Rob.
