Yikes just dropped our digital camera on the floor and the lens is completely bent, will not even retract back in... not worth getting mended as it will cost so much so need a new one! More money to be paid out hey! :x
anyway this is what we had which we bought last May and took lovely pictures...

SONY CYBERSHOT 7.2MEGA PIXELS DSC-W7 WITH 2.5" MONITOR
COST £322 MAY 2005

WHAT WE WANT - BASICALLY VERY SIMILAR PRICE ABOUT THE £300 MARK (maximum) , SIMILAR PIXELS, GOOD SCREEN SIZE, easy to use....pretty much what we had!!

CAN ANYONE HELP? DON'T KNOW A LOT ABOUT CAMERAS BUT PRICES SEEM TO BE DROPPING ALL THE TIME AND MAYBE SOMEONE KNOWS OF SOME FAB OFFERS OUT THERE!!

Thanks in advance ;-)

This is a nice Sony Camera and the website is great for comparing all the different models. I just bought a DSC T9, but would have gone for the N1 if the shutter lag wasn't slightly slower than the T9. It seems the Panasonic DMC FX01 is highly rated in this category.
The site also has plenty of links for prices, I couldn't find any better prices than the ones from the site. You should be able to get a better camera than you just broke for about £200-£250.
Hope this helps. :)

Hope you were insured??? for £300 you have a lot of choice.

Sony models have a good reputation and do well in tests..as spudgun recommends do some research on the link he has provided and when you decide on a shortlist it is prudent to google the models to pick up other reviews..don't rely on a single review as they can often vary...what you should be looking for is consistent good appraisal...particularly in those areas that you value most in a camera.

yes i was insured but £60 excess and then i would lose our no claims bonus so....... well our insurance would then go up and actually we can get something really quite good for £200-250 so we've decided to suck plums and not claim. :x
soooooo annoying but in the long run its just not worth it!! Insurance companies :pirate: have an uncanny knack of putting up premiums much more than you think they should!!

I have a Canon Powershot A430. I love it, it's simple and gives really good pictures, and it's not too expensive. Please see the link for more info.

What the reviewer says is true (well that's what I think) :)

very true...and it is difficult to change insurers for a better deal when you have a claim..they all expect you to insure but never claim.

In fact I have discontinued accidental damage because like you it became uneconomic to claim...in fact I have nothing of great value so accidental damage is not a necessity for me.

I had to claim recently for a computer I dropped :-( which was £600. AND I've just lost our camera on hols, which was a Canon IXUS 65, which is a FANTASTIC camera. I say sod the Insurance companies, you pay enough to be protected. Certainly with the £600 for the computer, my insurance will NEVER go up by that amount in 5 years so why not claim..?
My camera will be protected by our free travel insurance from our Alliance and Leicester current account so no worries there.

This is a great camera and a GREAT price inc loads of goodies
