Dear All,
I would like to get my wife a 1 carat diamond without the normal price tag. Does anyone know of some places where I could a decent 1 carat diamond for less than £1500.

It also needs to be exchangeable in case she does not like the design?

Any help gratefully received.

+1 yes just asked my daughter who is in the trade and she said you need to be looking about the £2000-£2500 for a good one

Even that would be an average one.

For a flawless you would be looking at circa 5k.

Seriously, you cannot go buying such stones unseen or over the net so you are going to have to give someone a profit.

The only way to do it is to go by yourself to a good jeweller and talk through your request. Get some ideas of price and learn about quality and clarity. See various settings, I like a 4 claw as a solitaire myself.

When you are done and you have set your grade and budget, then you can bring the missus into the store to have a look. Flick ipen a bottle of bubbly, if serious about spending the store should do this for you anyway.

In London I sometimes use Boodles http://www.boodles.co.uk/ and though they sell top dollar stuff, they are ok to deal in this range. You get quality, service, guarantees and often insurance for a year thrown in but you do have to give them a profit. However, the experience for the lady is everything and that starts with the choice. Buying it from a man in a pub or on the net may be cheaper but nowhere near the overall satisfaction.
