Help needed with a holiday - Feb 2007

My husband is turning 40 this Feb and instead of a big party, wants to go away for a week somewhere nice - quite hot but cheap

We have a 2 year old daughter as well so it can't be too hot for her but hot enough so it feels like summer! A firm that gives child places cheap would be a bonus too!

I was thinking Canary Islands but would consider anywhere really apart from Egypt, Israel or any political hotspots? Sat 10th - Sun 18th is the window we have to go away in. Not worried where we go as long as the accomodation is clean and safe.

Thanks for any suggestions

Cant really go wrong with the canaries for that time of year, we went to tenerife in January a few years ago and it was 30+ every day, however the north of the island can be subject to the ocassional shower or cloudy day in the winter months, whereas the south side is usualy hotter. Beware of some places in playa del ingles however as the can be a bit rough and ready.

We found playa blanca in lanzarote to be a bit windy, which made it chilly when you got out of the pool so we would avoid that particular resort again.

Maspalomas in gran canaria was quite nice with some good quality all inclusive hotels being close to the newly developed boardwalk area.

However our personal choice for the whole of the canaries would be the bahia principe in tenerife, it is a high quality (4*+) all inclusive hotel in costa adeje which is a 10 min drive from playa in the south. The only downside is that it is not close to any of the big resorts, however a bus does run to them if thats your thing. The all inclusive side of this hotel is second to none, cavair and champagne for breakfast, that sort of thing. With it being more remotly located its reasonably priced too.

Its a reasonably short flight (4hrs ish) to all of the canaries and its fairly cheap.

Hope this helps.

We are bang in the middle of Birmingham, Manchester and East Midlands, plus Liverpool within an hour and a half. All our family is in London, so Luton, Stanstead, Gatwick and Heathrow are all doable as well!

Thanks for the advice ukgatecrasher - its coming up as around £1700 for the three of us which is a bit out of budget. Probably looking for under £1000 to be honest - even better if its somewhere we can use tesco clubcard vouchers against the cost.
