Need some advice for a friend please! She has a samsung s5 contract and has had it 5 months max. The camera stopped working so she went back to vodafone. They said they would send it back to manufacturers to be fixed or replaced. A week later the manufacturer rang to say they wouldn't fix it as it has drop damage which is a total lie!!!!! Or she would have to pay £190. Also they said there was a crack which wasn't there when my friend left the phone! She also had a few cross words with the guy in the shop and unknowingly to her he's wrote down that the phone was in poor condition when it blatantly wasn't she's yet to collect her phone back from the shop but is also worried he's tampered with it. So long story short they won't fix the phone what are her rights because it seems to me its this shop guys word that's prevented it being fixed. Sorry such its long story! I like to be precise :) any help appreciated!!!

I have never taken a phone back to a shop but I would expect them to give me a reciept for the phone stating the physical condition before I left it with them ( I certainly wouldn't give a £500 phone to a shop without proof they had it). Did they give her a reciept? If so does it say the phone was damaged?

she did sign a form but stupidly i know didn't check what he wrote (obviously not even thinking anything like that would be wrote down) and he wrote poor condition, but it honestly wasn't not like some peoples who have scratches chips galore

Similar thing happened to a friend, vodaphone said the screen was cracked but it was in excellent condition when it was taken into the shop. My friend had the original paperwork from when he took it in which stated excellent condition. Still had to speak to several people before vodaphone apologised and replaced phone. Does your friend not have their copy of original paperwork showing condition of phone ? She did take it into a vodaphone shop didn't she ?

yes she did take it there i know stupidly she does have a copy but it does say poor condition!! i know that sounds dodgy and its her own fault but it wasn't in poor condition! she's gone back to the shop again and spoken to the manager (problem was the original guy was stuck next to him like glue her husband showed the manager his phone and asked if his was in poor condition and the manager said no (her husbands phone is a lot older and worn) so he said how can hers possibly be in poor condition! the manager said he couldn't do anything till he sees the phone, she should of read the paper work better i know i just suppose if he hadn't pointed out he'd wrote that she wouldn't have any reason to think he would write something like that to be honest id probably be the same if it was the first time id taken a broken phone to be fixed!

I would argue that if there had been a crack then the vodaphone guy would have written that on original copy. Poor condition is not specific enough and one persons idea of poor condition is not another's . Poor condition could just mean worn and scratched. A crack is a major issue which I would have thought bad enough to have to be specifically written on the paperwork. Google the actual shop branch and see if there are any reviews on it to see if something similar has happened to others . My friend kept going back to the shop to complain, tell your friend to keep their cool as this often works better than being a bit aggressive as frustrating as it is. Maybe your friend should contact vodaphone and make a complaint. Try leaving a complaint on their twitter page if they have one, this method often gets quick results. I guess we can all learn a lesson from your friend here, check paperwork before you leave the shop ! I hope she gets it sorted.

Thankyou!! Youve made a very good point about peoples ideas of poor condition, Ill also tell her to check shop reviews and if she gets no where when she goes to collect her phone tomorrow to get online :)

Well thankyou for that advice! You've really helped me! Sorry i offended you while i was rushing to write my message before running out the door. Maybe my grammar and punctuation weren't perfect but i assure you i would rather be a bit lazy with my grammar online sometimes than be just rude annoying and very helpful. I hope Im not keeping you from your obviously full and happy life while you read this so can i just ask you to kindly do one. Also feel free to correct my grammar and punctuation pity you can't do it with a red pen.

Well said emmaj85, I honestly do not know why toshapetriji felt the need to comment on grammar and punctuation, who really cares. Do they just read threads to see what mistakes some of us make ? How sad . I too have better things to do than check people's errors, even school teachers don't do that now lol debmm

Grammar and punctuation is important and shows a measure of respect for those you want to read your question and offer a solution. I have a solution to your problem but I think I'll keep it yo myself.

I noticed that too, when you are pulling people up on grammar and punctuation you should at least make sure you get it right yourself. I notice toshapetriji has not made further comments !

Hi Emmaj85, the very rude person stopped commenting after they made a mistakei. If you want a laugh have a look on the ask section and read the post about eBay ,and the bag with broken clasp,. Glad to have helped and that your friend is getting her phone fixed, for free I hope.
