WIndows 10 - up to date.

It's been like this for about a month now. It doesn't matter how many times I choose one of the update options, it never changes, I just can't get rid of them. There are no failed updates showing in my update history.

Please, it's doing my head in.

Is it the Anniversary update?
#6
I did thy this one which involves deleting the files in software distribution. It worked until next day when it returned.

No, I think that has installed ok.

My PC was working fine until the anniversary virus.. i mean update came along. What a load of crap, everything was perfectly fine until that installed itself. Had to do a hard reset from scratch.
#10
I've had same problem on a fairly new(ish) laptop - finally got it do an update last night. When you go to settings menu, are the options for windows update/ recovery active?

No, I think that has installed ok.
It's just that Computer Active issue 484 14-27 September has an article "Fix the Anniversary Update - We've solved your problems"
#12
It is the anniversary update , but you need to go in and manually do it and it takes about 40 - 50 mins to sort it out, then it clears it all :-)
#13
Whenever I have had to correct non functioning updates I have deleted files under C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download (but not the Download folder itself), not all folders under C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution

Then reboot and voila, it works after waiting a while.

Checking firewall settings (or just turning it off temporarily) would be another step just to ensure that no process is being blocked.

I just checked history and I don't think it's there X) I think it's something like 1607 which it says is ready to install. I think you might be onto something but I'm definitely not gonna admit it X) I'm looking into fixes now X)

There's many a tech expert on here, deeky, and I'm definitely not one of them. What worked for me in the end was choosing to install the updates before I logged on...

When you updated to Windows 10, was it a clean install or did you do it through Windows update?

How funny. In the link adz2010 says "bought a used Macbook Pro (2013 model) a little over a year ago and have never ran into a problem". I have that too for just over 2 years and never had a problem. Still working amazing as if it was bought yesterday. Meanwhile I have a new Windows device and it's having touchscreen and freezing issues. Hasn't even been a month yet....

Oh Windows, why do you torture us!?

I switched from Windows to OSX in January, since then not had a single problem, and I have Windows 10 running on parallels although prob only used Windows once or twice in that time.

In fact I think I am having PC issue withdrawal lol.

Someone's having a laugh.

Did a system restore to 6 weeks ago.

Downloaded and ran the MS fix.

Reran Windows update which found and re-downloaded the 1607 update.

Update and restarted.
