HI, I AM LOOKING FOR A CHEAP DVD RECORDER THAT IS EASY TO USE FOR MY ELDERLY FATHER TO RECORD DOCUMENTARIES, FILMS ETC FROM CABLE (VIRGIN) DONT KNOW IF THIS MAKES A DIFFERENCE. I COULD DO WITH SOME ADVICE AS I AM ABOUT AS CLUED UP ON THIS AS A NEWBORN ELEPHANT. AS CHEAP AS POSSIBLE BUT ONLY IF ITS NOT TOTALLY RUBISH OR TERRIBLE TO USE. ANY HELP FROM SOMEONE THAT KNOWS A BIT ABOUT THIS TYPE OF THING WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

You might find that a PVR is more suitable, it records things off the TV directly onto the harddrive so it's available any time and you can normally pause and rewind live tv as well and no need for recordable DVDs and all the faffing about. They are like a sky+ box without the sky subscription as you can get them with inbuilt digital tuners. I have one if you are interested in a secondhand one which I've only used a few times, otherwise just have a look at PVRs on google etc. Much easier than DVD recorders - I have one and always prefer to use my sky+ box.

Edit" Sorry, just read that he has Virgin - if he is out of contract (usually 12 months) you can phone them and ask for a V+ box (I think that is what they call them) which is a PVR and will record stuff off the tv onto the box's hard drive. So easy to use.
