I can recommend the NH vittorio veneto hotel in Rome. When I was looking to book I found that many of the rooms were tiny and expensive. I couldnt believe it when we stumbled on this gem of a hotel - the rooms are modern, large beds, roomy with flat screen tv and loads of toiletries provided. It is very reasonably priced and within walking distance from all the sights. If you can't be bothered walking there's a hop on hop off tourist bus stop across the road. I had a great time there so if you are struggling to find nice accommodation, its worth looking at this place...

have you tried ryanair? we flew to ciampino airport and got the terravision bus for a few euros, the bus takes you from the airport into the centre of rome and then our hotel was a few mins walk from there.
We stayed at 69 Manin Street which was close to the termini, so great for getting around, the rooms were clean, breakfast was a continental breakfast and it was quiet at night.
Google them if interested but the rooms are around £55 per night for a double

Thanks for the help guys
decided for a change of venue
either egypt or morocco as Rome seems to have less activities and is more a sight seeing place.
