I am off to London on Friday morning until Sunday morning. Flying into Heathrow and staying on Tottenham Court Road.

We have plans for the following... London Eye, Tower of London, Westminster, Wicked @ Apollo Victoria Theatre, Harrods. (Possibly Terracotta Army + Tutankhamum - not definate)

Will be travelling from Heathrow to Tottenham Court Road on the tube (according to my sister!) and probably the tube around the rest.

What is the best way / value of getting around. Im confused with travel cards and the Oyster card.

Any advice apprecited
Thanks :o)

I dont wish to dampen your enthusiasm, but if you have only part of Friday and all of Saturday then you have no chance of doing that lot !

Unfortunately few of them are very near each other. London Eye is south of the river but fairly near Westminster, Tower of London is East of the centre (and can easily take half a day on its own), and Harrods is West of the centre.

The Terracotta Army is in the British Museum so is fairly near to Tottenham Court Road, but the Tutankhamum exhibition is out at the O2 Arena in Greenwich which is quite a way out from central London. Also the British Museum web site says only 500 tickets are available each day so I bet they sell out quickly.

And if you have not pre-booked your London Eye tickets then you will spend half a day queueing for them.

I suggest you had better have a good think of what you can actually fit in.

(Possibly Terracotta Army + Tutankhamum - not definate) - Yes thats why I said not definate, was just a thought.

The rest can be fitted in ok, as my sister has done previously, she doesn't hang around! LOL. London eye, I looked at pre booked tickets but they are fixed to a time and not sure if we want to be tied down. Reading on the travel forums the queues arnt too bad this time of year?

Where exactly are you staying?

Is there any order to when you are doing what etc... (i.e. Wicked)

Personally would suggest getting into London check in at Hotel.

Then head to Tower of London - via Central Line from Tottenham Court Road to Bank/Monument and then changing onto the Circle/District line one stop to Tower Hil and you are next to the Tower of London.
This will be a lengthy visit

After viewing the Tower of London, Westminster is about 7 stops on the Circle and District line. Would imagine you just want to view the buildings etc.. as not sure if there is much you can do here!

From there you can get the Circle and District Line to Embankment and change onto the Northern Line to Tottenham Court Road back to Hotel to change for dinner/show.

Apollo is quite easy with the central line to Oxford Circus then the Victoria line to Victoria.

Saturday morning would be a good time to go to the London Eye, and there will always be some queues but should be ok and the Northern Line will take you straight there!

After that pick up the Bakerloo line to Picadilly Circus and then the Picadilly line to Knightsbrige which is where Harrods is. Again its just a large department store to wonder through so you may even have time to visit the British Museum which will be near your hotel

They are all Underground journeys but none should be longer than 20 minutes with some even shorter. http://www.tfl.gov.uk has a good journey planner.

Thats a pretty long journey but the cheapest way of doing it :)
As long as you arrive after 0930 on Friday morning you will be best off with a 3 Day Off-Peak TravelCard for Zones 1-6 which should cost £20 each and that will cover all your travel including getting to and from the airport whilst your here!

Hope this helps,
will try and answer any other questions!

Thanks OP for Rep, that has to be the longest post I've written!

But living in London all my life (well just moved) and working down the road from Tottenham Court Road, thought should help where I can.

Also this site has been good to me
