Hi can anyone recommend a cleaning method for roller blinds.

the blinds are cream and nicotine stained.i bought the hand held vax steamer,could I use this?.thanks.

You could take it down and soak it in the bath in some washing powder, it's worked for me in the past.

thank you for reply the blinds are quite big,but I,ll give this a go.....find a use for the steamer yet!

Yes the easiest option is to take them down

Hang them outside (probably over washing line or high fence)

Using soft bristle brush (the type from dustpan and brush) with hot water and sugarsoap or good detergent clean the thickest off (back and front / tilting the blinds as you go)

Then with hosepipe on mist or steam cleaner rinse and rinse again - using the brush again on bits you've missed

Let drip dry (tilt the bottom of venetian blinds to drain excess from the bottom rail)

Re-hang

a good large steamer will do the job without removing the blinds (no point trying with those little jug steamers) but use sugarsoap first in spray to lessen the workload and use plenty of ventilation and plenty of towels/wrags to catch the drips

took the blinds down,put them in the bath with a cup of persil soap powder,left them 2 hours.....came up as new :D.thanx for advice.

thanks i will do the bath one or the outside wash
