High Quality Compact Digital Camera

Off travelling the world next year, and will be doing so very lightly and don't want to lug the DSLR around with me.

As a result I'm looking for the best picture quality I can get from a compact digital... ideally not too much thicker than a deck of cards, and with a lens that retracts into the body.

Basically looking for suggestions of which brands / models would be a good place to start my search, as I've always had bulky cameras.

Thanks.

Good optical zoom, nice wide angle, does panoramic shots.
Plenty of reductions on mrp
Non gps version available to further reduce cost

Looks like that could be seriously worth considering... I'm selling the older of my DSLRs for about £450, so at 330 that would be cheap enough and looks to do all the things I'd want... just checked and it's £239.66 on Amazon =)

I may not purchase for another 9 months or so, so it can only get cheaper !

Thanks for your help :)

Panasonic TZ10, ot the TZ7 for a tad less. Review of the sony at dpreview.com is ok, but not as good as the TZ's IMO.

I second the Panasonic TZ7 from Amazon, i bought it for my Brother's wedding and the pictures are superb.
I just set it to automatic and it coped with everything.
You won't regreat buying one.

Happy and safe Traveling!
