Hi guys,

I am looking to buy a new high-spec PC, ideally local to the Midlands (although not essential).

Can anyone recommend any good sites that will allow me to customise and select the components.

Thanks in advance :)

http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/ and http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/ both impressed me with their configuration options.

Maybe consider making it yourself?
not sure how much these companies charge, but im guessing its a fair bit above what you can find components for seperately, especially as you are a hukd'er :)

Cheers guys, I could probably build it myself but I am not 100% so would rather get 'the experts' to do this for me to be honest, although I will build my own PC albeit a much lower spec just to get better at it.

Come to think of it, just wondered if you guys have ever bought from any of these sites above?

I was fairly close to buying from PC specialist, but intel stopped making the OEM version of the processor that I wanted so I could no longer get it from them and ended up building my own PC.

They did give helpful responses to the e-mailed questions I sent.

any ideas of the release date for windows 7? Do you think it would best just to buy a new PC now or wait for Windows 7 when it is bundled with PC's?

Windows 7 is out in 2010, better to buy one know and just upgrade when it comes out as your system will actually be faster after you install Windows 7 as its faster than Vista

It's only supposed to be a small update to vista (or was, as the first release candidate has just been released I really should check the latest feature list) so I wouldn't bother waiting for it. If you do end up wanting it then you can always buy the cheaper upgrade version when it comes out.

If you do have a computer place locally that knows there stuff then it's well worth asking them about prices, I'd generally prefer to order online that from most computer shops though.

Good point, I have looked for decent sites similar to those above local to the Midlands but not seen any quite as trust-worthy yet so I may just to buy from one of these that are further away. Touch wood i've not had problems with PC over the years, and more common stuff like installing memory, reinstalling Windows is something I can easily do myself.

But if you do come across any good local companies local to the W Midlands let me know

Playaz, I think Windows 7 could be a significant release and may be out as early as June. If you can put it off till then, then fine but otherwise get it now and do the upgrade...

My friend bought a hi-spec PC from Power Computing last year and apart from an issue with the BIOS (which they fixed on the phone) and a wireless keyboard, he's totally satisfied. Anecdotal but may help.
