Holiday in the Caribbean advice needed

The wife is already dropping hints about holidays this year. Can you suggest somewhere in the Caribbean?

2 weeks all inclusive preferably, maximum £4000 for the pair of us.

We have in previous year visited Grenada, St Lucia, Margarita and Barbados so would prefer somewhere different this time.

Thanks.

I'd add a vote for Cuba, mainly because it is currently a piece of living history. Go for 2 center Varadero and Havana. Organise a personalised tour round Havana and stay in a grand old hotel, then a chill out in an (almost) 5* in Varadero on the beach. Remember that Cuba 5* is European 4* so book the best you can afford. 4day city/10 day beach seems to work ok.
Cuba will in a short time open up to the rest of the world and within 10 years will look like everywhere else, at the moment it is the most interesting part of the Caribbean to visit.

Unless you are looking for Caribbean on the cheap, I'd avoid any other resort in Cuba, after the islands you have already visited, you'll be disappointed.

Alternatively, Punta Cana in the Dom Rep. Very good beach, top (expensive) hotel/golf. Some history to see in Santo Domingo.

Mexico so long as you get away up the coast from Cancun, which is awful.

thanks for the suggestions, we have decided Cuba, just need to find a good hotel.

Anyone been there who can suggest hotels?

I stayed in the Iberostar Varadero was a nice place, all inclusive. I found Havana a **** hole and a couple of hours was enough there, basically you're going to be in your hotel most days as there isn't that much worth seeing or doing in Cuba.

St. Lucia is a good place in the Caribbean to go to.

we went to Mexico last year (3rd time I've been to Mexico) and stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe in Riviera Maya, think it cost us about £1400 each at the end of August.

If you want somewhere a bit more lively then I'd recommend Playacar, or if you want full on party then go to Cancun!

I have stayed at the Iberostar a few times for work and it is very nice, 41/2*. Buffet is excellent by Cuban standards. Internet works. AI drinks are all ok.
With regards to Havana, it is important to go on a proper tour, have a look at this outfit,

Thanks so much for the help, we are going to mull it over and do something very much like this (Cuba).

I really appreciate it.

I would strongly recommend Aruba. Went there for a week about two years ago with Thomsons. Cant wait to go back.
