Puerto Vallarta on the West Coast. It's proper Mexico unlike Cancum which is more of an American Benidorm.

Riveria Maya is by far the nicest part of Mexico been there around 6 times heading back there in May....nice,quiet and you have access to the ruins..tulum etc better beaches & overall service than concrete cancun.

we went december just gone, stayed in riviera maya at the grand palladium resort and spa, 5* AI, booked through thomsons, fantastic place can highly recommend it! There were enough restaurants (mostly al a carte with a couple of buffets) to eat somewhere different each night of our two week stay. Fabulous pools with jacuzzis and an amazing salt water pool by the sea where they also has king size day beds - absolute lush! There were loads of places to visit, cozumel island is a short journey and boat ride away, coba was not far either or tullum, chichen itza was around 2.5 hours coach drive away but we did it and had a great day.
Weather was nice, hot in the day a bit cooler in the evening.
Saying all this has made me want to go back! Spoke to people staying Gran Bahia Principe who had stayed at our hotel last year, the said gran bahia was very nice but not quite as good as grand palladium.
