Horrible rotten milk smell coming from kitchen, no idea where it is coming from

A few days before I went to parents for Christmas I did spill some milk but wiped it up instantly, thats what the smell is like i.e strong smell of rotten milk, I smelled inside the fridge and its fine, in the cupboard below sink and its fine, just this horrible smell coming from somewhere.

I mopped up last night with boiling hot soapy water under the fridge and this morning smell is still there so tried again today and also used disinfectant and the smell is still there.

No idea where the smell could be then.

if the fridge is like ours the defrost mechanism on the fridge condenses on the fridge motor at the back of the fridge.this gets contaminated with fridge deposits and eventually turns into a fatty nasty smelling liquid.

drains/sink/ubend sometimes smell like that. try some bleach in the sink and run the hot for 5 min.

I thought this as 3 days before I left I removed the pipe for washing machine as it wasnt draining correct and scraped out a little gunk and put some bleach down it and 1 day before I left I used washing machine.

The smell is exactly like when you leave milk in fridge and forget about it and it gets lumpy and you open the lid so I assume its the milk though, like mouldy cheese or off milk

I do have a dodgy door on icebox too, I have to hold it on with black tape but all thats in there is some butter.

I had a similar smell and found it was the waste pipe for the washing machine and kitchen sink. I took out the pipe from outside and pushed a smaller pipe through it with a thin cloth on the end. I won't go into detail but it wasn't pretty. That cleared up the smell I had in the kitchen.

Must have spilt the Milk after it's best before date :) . Seriously check your washing machine door, detergent draw and internals (rubber seals, drum) for mold. It has a similar pungent smell. As a precaution, once a month do a quick wash with no cloths, and 10 percent detergent (bleach based washing tablet) on the highest settings usually 90c. Otherwise use the specialist cleaning fluid (Dr Beckmann) available from the supermarket. Also make sure you keep the washing machine door open after usage, this allows the heat, steam to dissipate, and drum to dry this stops the mould from forming.

I had that smell once and found a stray potato right at the back of my cupboard that that gone mouldy...the smell was shocking.

What did you wipe the spilt milk up with?
If it was disposable tissues/cloths and you put them in the bin it could be them.
Could also be the mop if it's near by.

Oops found the source of the smell, I made hot chocolate the day before I went to parents and reheated some and left it in microwave for a week.

The smell is gone now and my kitchen tiles look far cleaner.

Check the back of the fridge, look for a little box screwed onto the back, I used to work cleaning caravans and a few times smelled what seemed to be a dirty nappy, have awee look and see

I've had the same with a frost free fridge freezer. It does get smelly...

Had this before and it turned out to be the defrost drain in the fridge. If you look INSIDE your fridge, there might be a drain hole either at the back or bottom. Pour some vanilla essence in there and see if the smell goes away in the kitchen. Might take a couple hours.

ha ha. i left a half drunk cup of coffee in the kitchen cupboard and found it months later all evaporated into a solid mass in the cup.
it stank but luckily the smell did not get out of the cupboard while it was in there. X)

I take it that was an Irish coffee?
