Yes,I have been.As you see from the reviews, some good, some bad.It is to be noted it is a budget hotel, but its such a great location,I found it to be clean although in need of refurbishment. It is a very big hotel with a posh looking lobby, but the rooms might be a bit pot luck.

I went last year. Location is great. When you walk in the lobby you think WOW! Then you get in your room and you think HMMMM. They have made the public areas look great - all marble etc but not upgraded some of the rooms for ages and ages. It is a bit dingy in the rooms and rather sparse but for the amount of time you spend in them it is fine and fairly comfortable.

Hi Rex, not sure exactly what dates you are looking at, but I'm busy doing a NY hotel search too. The Pennsylvania was a lot cheaper than the rate you're quoting on the travelrepublic website.

I'm tending towards the Hotel Wales (4-star, inc breakfast, next to Central Park), which for the dates I'm looking at is coming out at £405 for 5 nights in Feb at Hotelopia (using 15% discount code + 10% Quidco)

ah ah you are talking per person and im talking per couple, the penn is much cheap on hotelopia as the wales is coming out at over £1000 !!!!!!!!

Im originally from NYC and used to do some business at the Penn so ive seen many rooms and its exactly what has been said here. The location is amazing but the rooms are hit or miss, some are dated most are small (but thats New York) then other have been redone and are rather nice if still small-ish. Theyve done refurbs on some sections and not got to the others "yet" and theres no rhyme or reason to what sections are done.

No not per person. For the dates I've booked, Hotel Wales came up all told for a double room (with 15% voucher, 10% Quidco, and 5% cashback on my new AMEX card) to £400 (£399.71 exactly) for 5 nights. (£420.75 without the 5% credit card cashback)

I've used hotelopia before and used both a discount code and Quidco when booking and worked fine. My Quidco has tracked already after booking yesterday afternoon.

TravelRepublic was just one example of where the Penn was cheaper than the rate you were quoting in the original post. Maybe because I'm looking at different dates (in Feb) rather than in April when you're going.

No, not really, that was just one example. I found it really hard to find one place with the best rates overall taking into account the various Quidco cashbacks available. I plumped for hotelopia cos of the discount code and 10% quidco. hotels.com seemed pretty competitive too. Don't forget to check the terms/prices to see whether tax is included too...at 13odd% it'll make a big difference to the price. I almost booked the Marriott on Brooklyn Bridge for £430 for 5 nights until I got to the last page and they then added on all the relvant taxes bringing it up another £100odd!

I booked the Hotel Wales. My next other choices were The Hotel Belleclaire (3 star) but had shared bathrooms but highly rated on tripadvisor or the Hotel Deauville (2 star)

its a lot more expensive in April, the hotel wales is over £1000 per couple for 5 nights ro, think i may just ope for the peen hotel at £420 for 5 nights ro as its the cheapest most central hotel with a private bathroom
