You will not be able to polish it out that's for sure, get one of the mobile repair companies out will probably be the cheapest way of fixing it.

I would say a full panel respray, but I've no experience with the fill and spray mobile services, and whether the finish is any good.

You will get away with a smart repair on that. Ide say about £150. In my experience most (reputable) smart repair (even the mobile van guys) work is on par with bodyshops.

Thank you. I am planning to get a quote from Chipsaway and look around for other companies too.

Have to agree, girl at work had her car for a week and it got dinged in high winds somethings smashed into it, you couldn't tell there was any damage and all done on her drive in a few hours.

Might possibly work out cheaper to buy a second hand bumper off ebay or something you might be lucky and find one identical, usually easy to fit too.

I would leave it until you do more damage. It wont rust and it's common. £150 is roughly the price to spray a whole bumper.

I am worried that it might rust - please let me know why you don't think so

Its plastic so it won't rust
Smart repair about £100 mark

Go to scrap. Find same car which was for example rear ended. Buy bumper for 10-20 pounds.

Most scrap yards list on eBay
And will be cheaper to have it painted as car looks quite modern

I would leave it till you mash it again and then get it done. After a month you wont even notice it.

Thanks everyone. Is the plastic covering the metal - I thought it was plastic but everything I read on the internet said that there is primer and then metal (no mention of plastic)

Put a magnet on it. Most bumpers are plastic resin. Underneath is the real bumper which is a big metal bar. You've pretty much just scratched the plastic trim. If you had got to metal you would have a huge hole in the trim. Your trim will not rust unless you have a big chunk of transferred metal sticking out of it.

Get on the floor and have a peek underneath and you will see the metal bumper reinforcement

My father recently had a similar looking scratch though on his rear bumper wing side. Was damaged in a similar fashion against a brick pillar on my Great Aunty's driveway. Local "smart repair" - we fix and spray the damage not the full panel company charged £100 for the fix and did an amazing job. Was on plastic not metal - Skoda Fabia Estate with metallic paint job.

lol

Its all plastic & smart repairs on bumpers never look 100%

Its best to get the whole bumper done

Go to see your local crash/auto repair centre and get them to have a look and estimate. I had a 6 inch scrape down the rear side of mine alone with bumper scratch. Offered him a cash job and seen as it was due an mot and minor service I got him to do that too. It cost me £190 for the lot. He had to fill in and respray some of the scratched area. Done a fab job. Independent Mechanics are always keen on cash jobs. Good luck.

Hi all, thanks for your advice. Been quoted £160 for smart repair. Might try out a local centre.

I will get ready for another voted down comment from my first comment which was right odd hotukdeals voting as usual but £160 isn't bad. We have our car in for warranty rust repairs and someone scratched the bonnet garage wanted £180 plus vat their "mates rate"
