My contract has finished and my rolling amount of Broadband is just too high. Thing is, Virgin are the only company that can provide fiber to my address (apart from SSE which I think piggyback on the Virgin services). I'm not sure if Virgin know this but they don't seem bothered losing me as a customer and I can only beat them down on price slightly! Any tips?

Where are you because TalkTalk now do fibre all over the country... worth checking even if you just have it to use in an argument with Virgin to get the price down

I'm in a really central area of Bristol which puzzles me why I have such poor choices. I have checked every other provider though. Virgin have me eating from their hands right now godammit!

Quit completely. Then wait for the call from your 'personal account manager' offering you the same package as before but much cheaper.

Yep tried that, didn't receive a call as expected and then had to call them to reinstate my account! I'm sure it's because they know I have no other options.

I have broadband only and have £9 a month loyalty credit on my account per month for recontracting. I pay £38.99 for the 300mbps package with phone

I have 75mbps fiber, (maybe with phone but don't use). Pay around £30 which will shortly be going up. Christ knows what you can do with a speed like yours!

The thing with virgin is when you call to negotiate they can see your monthly usage, what speeds competitors can offer you and for how much for so they don't often budge much on price.

option 1) ring up and say due to the price increase your going to get switch to another provider, say your TV is currently with sky and there always sending you offers to switch. The win back team will bombard you with offers to stay once your notice is handed in (make sure your home phone is plugged in!)

Option 2 ) ring up, be honest and just say your happy to recontract if they can offer you a decent 12 month deal, see what options are available and if your not happy just say no thank you I will just keep my package the same. Try again in a few weeks.

I always suspected they knew those details. I'm not sure if I'm a high usage user or not but they always seem to claim I am. Think they said 0.3 to 0.5 of a terabyte a month I use.

I don't even have a phone to plug in. Would they call me on my mobile number? I have tried to play them at this game but I might have one phone call at the most and they don't seem to budge much at all. The honest route has not had much success either. Sigh.

Winback team only call the home number on the account which is probably why you didn't get a good offer pal

it will work if he has partner or granny who lives there. go to local shopping centre and speak to a Virgin rep about what they can offer a new customer. then ask ur granny to use her name. she is then the customer. you can later phone up and change the dd details. preferably it's a partners name but doesn't have to be.

If what the person above says is true (that the retention team only call you on your virgin landline) then I don't even have a phone plugged in. I waited a whole month.

Virgin media have a rule that you're a new customer when you haven't subscribed to their service for at least 12 months. So your best bet may be just to settle for a less than perfect deal with another provider (ADSL) and then shop for a new customer deal with Virgin after a year. Sorry if this ain't the silver bullet you were looking for but I think in your case there probably isn't one.

Yeah they ring on the house phone. I'm paying £38 for 150meg broadband, land line and large fun package Tv

Been to the point of cancellation 3 times now with virgin. Been very happy with the product, not happy with the constant price increases.

They've always phoned me on my mobile to give me offers (not a virgin mobile either) - I don't own a landline phone - we do have a landline installed as that gave a discount.

We currently have:

70mbps BB
Tivo HD Recorder Box
M Package TV
Phone Line

That costs £35/month

Each time I have cancelled I get it back to this price, then they start to creep it up again. I phoned this time and just said to them that each time I cancel, they phone, they reduce the price to £35 and I agree and we carry on, the bloke on the phone said he could see that on the record so offered me the same, but also said he would wipe out the next bill to make up for the inconvenience, so it was all done straight away on the phone, back down to £35/month and this month free.

So do you cancel and wait for retentions to call you back after a few weeks?
#24
First thing to do is make sure you allow them to call you, your marketing preferences have to be set up. Second really cancel, they won't do anything without the cancellation being in then wait, depending on time of year calls normally come within the first two weeks. Got deals on twice, birth for 18 months and last time a couple of months ago they gave us double discount no idea why, so paid before the price increase £21 150Mb BB only.
