How do I go about buying a saxophone?

I'd like to learn the sax this year but I have no idea how to go about buying one. I live on the Isle of Dogs and there are no music shops close by.Then I thought I'd ask the good people of HUKD if they had any suggestions, or if they had a second-hand student alto saxophone they wanted to sell?

Many thanks for any help offered.

Not wanting to be funny or anything, but you put "saxaphone" into search engine and up pops lots of places to buy. You order, they send.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post, Ellie. I have done some research online, but the problem is that the more information I get the more confused I become. I am a complete beginner, so I don't understand the terminology or what to look for.

I was hoping that someone would offer some advice to help me along.

Thanks,
Reg.

Take a trip to Soho. A few years ago, I went there while on a trip to London, unexpectedly met a blind guy playing piano in a Yamaha shop in Soho, ended up coming home and buying the piano he was playing direct from Yamaha. Why....I have no idea, but it seemed like a good idea in the first place. Musical instruments are not something you buy online before trying it first - you need to experience the sound first, Soho isn't completely out of the way for you (I think?), so give it a try!

PS. During daylight hours.

Cheers Grant. Great story. Soho, or Denmark St is only about 20 mins away. Might take a trip up there next week. Cheers mate.

Yeh, sorry... I now realise there is more to it than seeing one you like the look of and buying.
