i sent mine back to MS - said it had the RROD - UPS took it away and returned it within 2 weeks - fixed free of charge.

Not sure if Error E74 is covered by MS these days but it definately wasn't 2 years ago.
Just tell them it has the RROD!

Do not try and open it up. As long as whoever modded made a decent job of opening it up you will be fine sending to MS. Look across the back of the console, where the clamshell opens up and check that the small holes across the back are not marked in any way. Also remove the front panel and check for warranty label, if it looks untampered with leave it as is obviously. If there is no label you will be fine, if the label looks tampered with, remove it fully and clean off the adhesive/label remnants. MS have recently changed the warranty to 3 years for E74 errors. Do not worry about the drive being flashed it will be fine. They will probably change the drive and the mobo when they fix it so you will have to get it reflashed.

You have nothing to lose apart from not getting a flashed drive back, plus you will get 3 months warranty on your console from MS. Alternatively if you try and take it to bits and cannot fix and make a mess of the case then you have no chance of getting it fixed by them. Also the only fix is a reclamp of the CPU and GPU, which will probably not last for any length of time if it is successful.

Yes they will fix it for free as long as it has not been tampered with.
