How does Argos furniture compare to Ikea's?

Hello, in your experience how does furniture from Argos compare to Ikea's? I have purchased dining and bedroom furniture from Ikea before so I am quiet familiar with the level of quality, I have never purchased furniture or anything Argos branded for that matter altough have bought electronics from Argos. I am specifically thinking about chest of drawers, bookshelves and dining room set.

Not being able to see Argos furniture in the flesh is a disadvantage and reviews only for items seem quiet random.

I would steer well clear of Argos. I purchased 2 leather sofas 14months … I would steer well clear of Argos. I purchased 2 leather sofas 14months ago which cost £2400 but are absolute rubbish with the seats tearing away from the back of the sofas. Argos will not do anything about my complaint as they only have 12 month guarantee on furniture.!

I'm sure you are still covered under consumer rights... something about a product had to be fit for purpose for a reasonable amount of time even if you've exceeded the 'standard' 12 months.

Ikea Warrington has been supplying me with furniture for over 25 years. Even their most basic items have lasted well. If you move up their price ranges the quality is even better.
Within the family, we have purchased, beds, wardrobes, chests of drawers, bookcases, chairs, bekvam steps and kitchens on a number of occasions. All good. Argos supplied me one shelf unit. Not a patch on Billy bookcase from ikea.

I got some from Argos it was such bad quality that I phoned them to come and collect it. Which they did without charging me. The delivery drivers just slung it in the back of the truck and said I wouldn't believe how many they had to collect because of them being bad quality. I'm happy with all my ikea furniture though:-)

Our entire house is done with Ikea furniture bar a few things - it's great quality and as it didn't cost the earth we don't get too precious about it being knocked by the kids as they're playing or suchlike.

The quality is way better than Argos and their guarantee is better too - plus they have meatballs

Homebase is owned by the same firm so maybe your local homebase might have a few bits of furnature set up in store for you to check out the quality, i personally have had wood furniture from ikea and have only had a couple of sofas from argos so i cant compare but the sofas are still going strong in the conservatory 12 years later

having never bought furniture from argos but wondered about quality every time im grateful for everyones advice. argos wont price match either , rather odd considering their size global sourcing etc even more worrying is now their selling big brand furniture like schrieber or hygena (which actually came pre-assembled ) that was 1 of mfi's big mistakes , all 3 companies were owned by howdens and competitors like ikea imported flatpacked furniture by the containerload and simply beat the "wont be told old school English mentality of manufacturing in the uk )

argos is mostly chipboard mdf so u can't really compate that to wooden stuff not sure about the wooden stuff without any details of thickness and types of wood I think it's not a good idea to buy unless u have seen the item in flesh

I stand corrected it was owned by the same firm (home retail group) until February 2016 when home retail was bought out and saisburys took over argos in april 2016

I bought a wardrobe from Argos . I inadvertently threw away the back because I thought it was part of the packaging . It was cardboard .

Argos is rubbish. My whole house is ikea now lol. Remember to scan family card when paying... It gives you free insurance if you damage it getting it home or building it x

Sorry, but that so made me laugh, psychobitch
And yes, IKEA flat pack furniture is surprisingly quality feel, sturdy. We have dining table, chairs, sideboard and display light up unit. The whole dining room furnished for less than 500

Just to throw my argument in, bought a wardrobe for about £50 (okay I know it's cheap but it's for my student room) and it fell apart within a few months because it wasn't sturdy. I replaced it with the cheapest £30 wood wardrobe from Ikea and it's amazing compared to Argos.

Argos bedroom furniture is awful, very cheap and nasty. We had problems from the start with draw runners falling apart, they did replace them but it took 3-4 weeks for the replacements. This problem was continuous then after about 6/7 months I asked Argos to replace the furniture or supply better drawer runners, they stated I had to pay a carpenter or approved tradesman for a report on the problem. Due to the cost to myself I purchased stronger drawer runners from EBay.The bedroom drawers cabinets were made from cardboard in a honeycomb shape.IKEA
