Hey guys

My virgin broadband+line rental £24 per month deal has gone into its last month will go up to £32 in Feb.

I called to see what offers they had and the best they could do was £29 for 6 months followed by £32 for 6 months. Sounds rubbish to me so I said I'd like to cancel to which they replied as there's 1 month 2 days left I'll be charged £4 to cancel early for the 2 days.

I said fine I'll call back in 2 days!

Anyway I was just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat and whether you got a better deal out of them?

I called 4 weeks ago got nothing then called 1 week later got 40 quid knocked off monthly Bills. All I lost was free phone calls in the week and gained sky cinema.

Nov 2015 I discovered through a friend that they were paying the same as me but had Tivo... and I did not. I called VM and complained, I do not recall much of the conversation but the result was a 1TB Tivo box and £5 off a month. This November not only did the retention deal expire but the price also went up (for the 2nd or 3rd time this year) which resulted in our bill going up nearly £10 per month.

As fortune would have it my call to renegotiate once more happened to be on Black Friday where both BT and Sky were running various deals, I called and complained making reference to a deal I was considering with sky (I wasn't)and they passed me on to retentions. I'll confess I was rather rude to the first person I spoke to as they were rather belligerent, almost flippant. By the time I spoke to someone in retentions I had clamed a little and the conversation was very amicable and this is how I advise you do things, be polite, don't allow yourself to be pushed over but be polite.

In the end we got £10 a month off our bill and our Internet was upgraded also for free (from 50mb to 70mb), I just need to remember to downgrade the internet before the deal expires so we start paying extra for it. I should also perhaps advise that we have been with VM since 1996... well it was NTL at that time.

Just be polite, do it when there's a deal on with BT or Sky and it never hurts to act like its your VM service or dinner on the table.

Which broadband package are you currently on? Sometimes it's best to give your notice and wait for a callback from outbound retentions.

I was out of contract so called with a retention deal that was posted on here a week or so ago. They wouldn't honour it so I cancelled it all. I then spoke to retentions who offered me the deal I had mentioned for about £25 more so stick to my guns. About 4 days later I got a call from retentions, same plan I'm on now but internet increased to 200mb and more than 50% off the monthly price. Call their bluff, they don't like to lose customers.

Last time I rang up to cancel VM, I told the guy it was too expensive and I was moving to sky - instead of the 30 day notice they cut off the broadband immediately!! No 30 day notice or anything, so be very careful. I was expecting to be put through to retentions but nope.

Had to ring them back with my tail between my legs and ask them to reinstate it! :(

I will call back on Tuesday and give them my notice of cancellation and hope for a call back - it really urks me that they can't keep on the same deal what incentive does one have to stay with a provider if they're going to increase your subscription every 12 months!

I would leave them they have drove me nuts trying to get them to sort my account out since 5th Sep went to CISAS to sort it then bingo sorted .
Keep a record of you have spoken to and time .

Went to Sky faster better deal £100 on gift card and cashback on topcash back and the Q box is greatX)

I had been with virgin for over 10 years, my bill was to increase from 27 to over 32. The best they could do was just over £30!! For phone and broadband.

Luckily BT had the Black Friday deals on, and in the end got fibre with similar speed I had with virgin for 27.99, a month and then money back of £140. So in the end I'm paying around £21 a month.

Virgin kept ringing me after I put through the cancellation, but they wouldn't reduce the cost to below £30.

Now with BT for the first time, and have to say I am pleasantly surprised.

Good luck ringing them, bunch of insolent arrogant blokes in a certain call centre up north.
The managers seem as hapless as the call agents.

I think I'd rather speak to an offshore centre than deal with that mob again.

Tell me about it mate spoke to them twice in the last 24 hours each one giving me a different story!

Just saying if he shops around and tells them what he can get from elsewhere ,it makes a stronger case for them to offer more that is what I did with Virgin last year and they matched it .
In August had email to say it was going up again for the 3rd time in a year, the service is not what it used to be and internet slowed right down and had nothing but trouble with all of Virgin Media services .
Spoke to neighbours they had same so we all left.
Sky is so much better .I was with Virgin since Nov 1994 when it was yorkshire cable before Virgin .I am also saving loads of money got the new Qbox free joined in Sept and got free box set for Christmas present form Sky .

I called on 23 Dec to cancel, got a call from retention team today.
Got 200 gamer for £35 a month no phone line.
Free activation, free super hub 3 and £20 bill credit.
Probably not the most earth shattering discount but the offer they have on broadband only expires 29th and at least I don't have to mess about with new accounts in relative name etc.
He did mention he could match the deals currently on website for new customers as well

The number they called from was
08004089340

I cancelled my broadband and phone yesterday best they could offer was £29 a month for 6 months followed by £32 for 6 months.

Seems all isp have put their prices up as £30 per month for fibre looks average but still I had virgin would offer me a sweeter deal to stay with them.

Let's see if they call back.

I spoke to someone in Wales and he was really polite and gave me a good deal. I pay line rental up front and got a loyalty discount on it, speed upgraded to 70mbbps and pay £8 for 6 months and then £11 for last 6 months.

Think you just need to keep ringing as the person I first spoke to was giving me a smaller discount on everything. Also like someone has mentioned it helps if you have a cheaper deal you've found elsewhere. Sky had a deal which was about £19 a month after all charges etc and I just kept on emphasising that I can't afford to pay more than £20. It works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. But keep trying!!

(Was going to go all Yoda then #overtired but resisted!!)
