How much should a Samsung Galaxy S3 screen replacement cost?

ramanpatria1122ramanpatria1122

My GF has broken the screen on her SG3, it still works but to end calls she has to take off the screen protector (ironic, i know) and press end call. She has been quote about £175 to replace it.

Is this about right, or is she being ripped off.

PS She does have phone insurance but took this out after the screen was already broken.

Thanks

I just paid £120 in London to have mine replaced as it isn't covered by insurance

if it's just the digitizer not much, if the screen's broken too £175 sounds about right (£120 for replacement screen on ebay + labour)

Probably a little steep if you can get the glass, digitiser and LCD for £85 from here .

As it's all complete installation would literally take 10 mins.

If the actual LCD is fine and the digitiser is working it looks like it's possible to just change the glass (about £20).. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtiyU-RQUU0

I was talking about new, but yeah that seems like a decent deal!

Thank you for your replies everyone, I appreciate it.

The touchscreen seems to be working fine - I take it this means the digitizer is still in working order.

The glass on the top is completely cracked, from top to bottom. So it would be better to just get the glass replaced?

What I would do before ordering any parts or getting someone to replace the screen is to attempt to remove the glass yourself. If you are able to remove it without damaging either the screen or the digitiser then you can just purchase the glass for under £20 and put it on.

If you do break the digitiser or/and the LCD then you'll need the £85 part which is literally plug and play.

Should you not be keen on doing this yourself then I'd hunt around and get quotes for just the screen as you don't actually need the whole unit (it's quicker for an installer to install the whole unit but why should you pay kit you don't need).

There are phone repairers and phone repairers... a real phone repairer will be able to save you money and not make you replace parts you don't need.

If you get stuck and you're not keen to do it yourself I'm happy to take a look at it as I've done many an iPhone screen repair/replacement.

I will try and get it to a independent repairer and see what they can do. I am having knee surgery tomorrow so will be out of action for a couple of weeks. If all else fails, then I may be in contact with you.

    Thanks

You cant replace the glass without digitizer and they are very difficult to replace. Hence price of full unit.
