Alot of people seem to have gone for the asda deal. This thread here is to keep all the technical talk in one thread.

Talk about roms, rooting, guides, issues and anything Evo 3D!

Ive had this phone for about two weeks now and will answer any questions to the best of my ability.

KuK and gx3k are also very knowledgeable, so im sure they'll help out aswell.

This was the the best combination as pointed out by ssjinzo. This allows you to flash any rom, kernal or any flashable zip through clockwordmod on your phone. Even though its not mentioned in the guide, i would advise against using the htcdev site to officially unlock your bootloader as you need to submit your serial number which htc store on their database. Which basically means you are surrendering your warranty.

The guide i posted can be reversed come warranty or selling time.

Quick Guide

This is a shortened version of the guide posted above.

Posted by ssjinzo

1. Follow this guide from point 4 as our CID is already as required. http://tinyurl.com/7dhnmcu
2. Use this tool to s-off and install clockwork mod. http://revolutionary.io/
3. Then roms can be installed via clockwork mod and/or the stock rom can be rooted. see this http://tinyurl.com/5wjvc5p

Camera is decent enough for daily use, nothing to shout home about but it does take nice and clear snaps. You would need a mhl adaptor for the second bit which i dont have.

Here's the review of my extended battery for those interested (Originally posted Feb 03):

Got my extended battery today (3600mah) and still trying to run it down even if I have not charged it.
It is just 4 grams heavier than my old set up:

Original battery (1730 mah) + case = 192 grams
High capacity battery (3600 mah) + dedicated back cover = 196 grams
I cannot put a case on it because of the bulk but it comes with a custom back case so it doesn't matter if it get scratched.

Initial impressions:

* not as thick as I expected (adds about 5mm to original thickness but only on the battery part)
http://i.imgur.com/XdLzW.jpg
* the full black colour of the back cover makes it look less like a toy (I'm not a fan of the gold/red rim at the lens)
http://i.imgur.com/yKh10.jpg?1172
* the bulk at the back makes it easier to hold the phone in one hand and text comfortably
http://i.imgur.com/f6qA6.jpg
* it also makes the phone easy to pick up and protects the camera lens from scratching surfaces
* the back cover is of good quality, feels like rubber with better grooves

Here's the link of the item from Amazon for 7.49 pounds + 4 pounds shipping.

Update 1 (Feb 06): I am on my 3rd charging cycle now and I am very satisfied with the results. Here's a screenshot of my battery consumption:

http://i.imgur.com/32aiB.png?9969

It lasted over a day (9am Sunday to 6:30pm Monday) without charging (just transferred a couple of movies to watch via USB) and without tweaking the CPU or undervolting it. All this with regular usage (not on power saver mode or airplane mode).

This includes:
* 2 hours of heavy gaming (Pewpew 2 and Anomaly)
* 2 hours of movies (1 Filipino movie + 1 south park episode)
* 2 hours of chatting via yahoo messenger
* 3 hours of internet browsing
* using other apps
* general tinkering (checking emails, updating/installing apps, etc)

I expect it to get better still with more cycles :)

Update 2 (Feb 22):Here's my battery life using the extended battery I got from Amazon for 11 quid (3600 mah). I did not use any tweaks (no undervolt, no airplane mode, no juicedefender) just a custom ROM on regular usage. This includes over 2 hours of videos, over 2 hours of internet/chatting, checking email/texts, and general tinkering. I avoided graphic heavy games since they will definitely drain your battery. It actually lasted 2 days and 12 hours from full battery (9am Monday until 9pm Wednesday). If I am a light user I guess I can go over 3 days easy.

I was an iphone 4 user before, wanted a change. This screen size wasnt cutting it. This is actually my first proper dive into android phones and its been pleasant so far. Interface is fluid, touch responds well, everything as expected from this type of spec. My friend has an s2 and honestly the difference is minimal, some things in favour of the s2 some to the 3d. Only difference is the screen quality the s2 is a bit better, but not £200 better.

Sky go has already launched on the market, xda users are developing a modified apk to work on all handsets if your into that kind of thing.

By all means, go for it.
