Looking for a bike to use for daily commute of 5 miles each way with a few hills and bit of riding weekends, my subway 1 is falling apart so either spend on that or new bike.

Looked at
Specialized Sirrus 2009 Hybrid Bike
http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/ebwPNLqrymode.a4p?f_ProductID=10257&f_FullProductVersion=1&f_SupersetQRY=C105&f_SortOrderID=1&f_bct=c003155c002910

and

Scott Sub 30 2008
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/scott/sub-30-2008-hybrid-bike-ec001308?utm_source=awin&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=awin

any thoughts on these bikes or others.

Cheers

Hmm, It kind of depends on you really, of the 3 bikes mentioned (subway, specialized or scott) I'd prefer the scott (the only one with trigger shifters) but in all honesty they look to be much of a muchness.

My only suggestion is to think of the subway, is there anything you DON'T like about it? Anything you get annoyed about? Could you spend the £300 odd for the other bikes on not only repairing but upgrading parts? (a cheaper pair of disc brakes?, nicer / smoother gears etc.)

I'm not making it any easier but this looks to be a very good deal too http://www.discountcyclesdirect.co.uk/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=118&products_id=7249 £249.99 including delivery (pic shows suspension seatpost but it comes with a standard one)

thanks for replies

Marin looks good but deliverd as supplied by manufacturer - and as I don`t know much about bike assembly might be a hassle.
Thinking of getting the subway done up a bit, any idea what the cost would be for reasonable gears front and rear bearing in mind I only ever use the large chainset on front, the headset is a bit worn as well. brakes and wheels/tyres are prety good.

might be easier to take it to local bike shop andm ask them for a price I guess

Pretty much well I'm afraid.

But for basic prices, www.wiggle.co.uk would be a good start

Im thinking of selling my Giant XTC SE hard tale if your intrested, could easily put some road tyres on for the commute, and its more than capable off road.
