I am going to see U2 on this day, the initial idea was to drive from Newcastle to Sheffield and back the same day. Which probably wouldnt have been a problem, till I had a car crash last week, and I am still in a lot of pain. I dont think i would manage doing everything in one day (which we were doing to keep costs down!)
But because I have left it so late, there is nothing left, or it is extremely expensive!
Someones knowledge of somewhere near to the tramline would be cool and parking is necessary.

have you looked on booking.com? they do last minute deals...
How much are you wanting to pay and how many in the room????
OOoops, i should of mentioned that... 2 people in the room and I really need it to be as cheap, but a descent as possible.
If we could of managed it we would of stayed 2 nights, cos it dont looki like i am gonna get a holiday this year, as my OH has lost his job. And it seems like its gonna be upto me to pay for the stay!
We had the same problem booking for an overnight following a show at Sheffield Arena in Nov. Ended up booking at Barnsley Travelodge (£19).
There are some good deals at some places outside Sheffield for around £40-£55 depending on how far you want to go outside sheffield, but I think you will struggle to get anywhere in the centre at such short notice. There is an Ibis Hotel in Rotherham which is not far from Sheffield...its £44 for 1 night £83 for 2 nights which isnt bad. Got brilliant reviews...
There are a few more..there is The Sandpiper Hotel, Chesterfield as well...both about 9 miles out of Sheffield..this one has breakfast included at £45 for a double room with brekkie (was £109 originally) or £85 for 2 nights saving £133!! Have a look : http://www.laterooms.com/
Good luck
I'd very much doubt you'd get anywhere at a low rate stopping in central sheffield at this late stage,as above says you'll need to look at staying at a nearby location
Premier inn and holiday inn had offers - do not know if they are still on. I booked holiday inn for 24.50 a night through HUKD. Do a search to see if the offers are still valid
That would be fab at that price... but they are sold out!!
