It's a Toshiba Sat L300D-121 Laptop:
AMD Athlon XD Dual Core QL60
1.9 Ghz Processor
Windows Vista Home Premium
1024mb DDR2
160Gb HDD
15.4" Trubrite WXGA TFT
DVD Super Multi Drive
Ati Radeon 3100, up to 1407mb shared graphics
Wireless, 802.11 b/g
VGA Web Cam

I can get this for £285 and an extended 2 year warranty is £85 (but not sure this is worth it). Is this a good deal. My original budget was £250 but this seems pretty good for under £300 I think, but I know nothing!!!!

Any comments would be apprechiated.

Thanks.

only 1GB ram.. there was a 4 GB going yesterday for 350, I feel this is very low entry level and will be outdated sooo quickly.

I was in the same state yesterday wanting to get a laptop for < £400 and loads of deals on here, but when u think about what ur getting for the money, u would be better to pay a few hundread extra and future proof ur self.

enless u are buying it for the mother-in-law and dont want it to be used for anything other than websurfing/word processing.

I got the DELL Studio 17 with 4GIG ram for £620 in the end as u get a half decient dedicated grapics card in it.

I know what you are saying, but it's Ok saying pay a few hundreds extra - I don't have that! When my original budget was for £250 and I am desperate for something under £300, I can't afford to go to £350 or £400!

If you could comment on the spec for the price and suggest something as good or better for a similar prices that would be great!!!!!!!

It is only for web surfing, chatting online, copying downloading music, etccc.. I don't need to do fancy games, etc.

it will do what you want, i would say maybe upgrade to 2gb ram at least, that laptop is approx the same spec as my current one, and after 1year it now struggles to play music & do anything else at the same time. and my one is on XP... this one is Vista..

as i said, u get what u pay for, and if thats all you got, not much u can do. but i guess for £250 this is not bad.

the 1GB ram is what really puts me off. that is quite low. but It should be ok,

Have just come accross this Toshiba Laptop L300 - 11C

Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor T2370
(1.73 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 1 MB Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista (R) Home Premium
2 GB Memory
160 GB Hard drive

I can get this for £276, is this a better deal?

if i was buying, then yes i would go for the second one. as would prefer to lost .1ghz to gain 1gb mem.

sounds like your laptop is just full of junk, computers shouldnt just get slower over time. you should stil be able to easily do all of the things you mention easily with that laptop. I'd try to clean out your system a bit

Even cleaning a system does not help much, becuase a lot of junk computers get over time is never fully deleted and slows machines down. and sometimes all these clean up apps just make things worse.

The only real way to bring a machine back to health is a re-build.

When i get my new laptop and have transfered everything off my current one, i will be doing a re-build of the other one, to bring it back to its former glory.

My last job was Building computers/laptops. gladly i dont do that anymore, and just develop software for them!.
