I know nothing about them so it's got to be able to plug in & go. No build & install yourself type deals.

Any advice on where to go & the best deal around at the moment please.

How about this one : http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/555126/HP-P6107

It's sort of what I'm after, is it a good deal?

Can you suggest better?

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm not really sure what I should be looking for myself apart from within budget.
I don't know anything about computers, so just want to be sure before I hand over any money that I'm getting a good deal. Hopefully the best I can for that price.

What sort of activities will you be doing on your computer? Serving the web, email, gaming, work?

Just surfing the web & email, no gaming or anything fancy so I know any computer will do but some are faster etc and I want to try & get the best I can within my price :)

That is a very good computer for the price however it doesn't have an OS pre-installed which is what topic starter didn't want.

The HP P6107 is a decent computer for your needs. The processor (AMD Athlon X2 7550) is a decent CPU. The bonus feature with the HP computer is the Lightscribe DVD drive but unless you would like to customize your disk labels it's nothing special. So I think I could do a bit better.

Link:DELL Computer
This computer has an Intel Pentium Dual Core E5300 which is faster and more economical (in terms of using less power). The computer will also have a card reader which could be useful if you have SD cards etc.

However, the only negative(s) with this DELL computer (compared with the HP P6107) is the reduced storage place from 500GB to 320GB. However you can pay an extra £20 for it to be upgraded to 500GB.
The other minor negatives would be the additional Keyboard (and mouse?) which you cannot remove.

If I have time I will search for more but I believe DELL makes decent home computers and is a good start.

I think you have beaten my one!

The ACER computer has the E5200 which is tiny tiny bit slower than the DELL E5300 but I doubt you will see a difference in performance.

The Hard Drive storage space is massive (1TB!) and I doubt you will have problems with storing pictures, music albums, videos ever again.

The integrated graphic card is really good and is even probably powerful enough to play some games on high settings too. The HDMI port is also a big bonus for your high definition media.

So to summarize, I think you have found a winner. :-D

Thanks :)

Unless anything better comes along then, I think the ACER X3810 3GB for £329.99 is the one I'll go for.
