I'm not a gamer by any means but have the need to be buying one (seeing as it's Christmas). Done all the research and have an idea of what to get but there's nothing like real opinions.

So.......X-Box or PS4 (or something else) and why please.

Many thanks.

I would recommend getting what your friends have, ultimately they both do the same thing, but one of them will most likely have your friends on to play online with (If that's what you want to do).

Although for me I much prefer the PS4 controller over the Xbox one controller but that's very much personal preference.

If you have no idea at all. Do you have any friends you'll be playing with? What do they play? The other would be which exclusives interest you (games released for either, but not both).

Depends on the games you want to play and how you want to play them....

Xbox wins currently for me (I own both) in terms of games for gold and EA access - both good value and EA vault has enough games to sink your teeth into for 20 quid a year. You can expand internally storage with external drive.

Ps4 win the exclusive battle for me - just - Uncharted, Last of us being two big reasons but with Halo, Gears or War and the superb Forza Horizon Xbox isn't that far behind.

Controller... ps4 wins, better feel and built in battery.

The OS - I prefer ps4 over xbox one.

Store - again ps4 is easier to navigate but I feel you get more freebies with Xbox (I have no evidence to support this).

I'd say its close but with the bargains on CD keys, Games for gold and EA vault... Xbox would be my choice if I could only have one.

My vote goes for the PS3. On the grounds that it's significantly cheaper (£70 from CEX in reasonable condition for one with 160 HD). Games are cheap e.g. Uncharted 3 is £2.50. Also you say you're not a gamer, well a PS3 will still give you plenty of games. for little outlay and if you decide you're not a gamer it hasnt cost you much and you can sell on easily.
Good PS3 titles include:
Uncharted 1/2/3
Last Of Us
Tomb Raider 2013 "reboot"
plenty of FIFA games
plenty of kids games eg Little Big Planet, Ratchet & Clank

You really can't recommend one over the other based on games, price or specs. They are that similar...

Bearing that in mind, I think the most important factors are:

- What your friends have
- What you're used to, especially controller-wise

For me, it's Xbox One, for someone else it's PS4. You can't go wrong really. 8)

Thanks up to press folks, really interesting. Not for me but I've been given the responsibility to make the choice (God help me!).

I had the same dilemma a couple of weeks ago. We have the wii and PS3. 21 yr old son with learning disability and autism asked for FIFA for PS3.
However, having read reviews, and not knowing what to get him for Christmas, we decided that it was time to upgrade.
I was shocked to discover the PS3 games are not compatible with the PS4, so started from scratch.

I read loads of reviews, which really didn't show a lot between the two, and what they did pick as differences were very minor variations unlikely to matter to my family. I asked around and generally everyone seemed to prefer the Xbox, so went for this as his cricket team mates also have Xbox and they can play online together.

Looked for bundles over a week or so, watching the prices which seemed to change daily, and got console (one S), fifa, extra controller, controller dock and 3 months 'live' for £248. have also bought some extra games so all 3 children (age 11 & 19) all have something to enjoy.

I really don't think that there is a lot to choose, but everyone my husband and I asked recommended the Xbox one, no one suggested PS4!
