I'm looking to get my little sister a laptop for christmas. She's only 10 so will mainly be for internet and learning. But would like the laptop to not be totally outdated in a few months.

Any suggestions on some good laptop deals would be appreciated

Cheers

Not sure what you can do about that. Almost any laptop you buy will have been replaced by a newer model within a few months. Laptop makers are constantly putting in faster processors, larger hard disks, more memory etc.

This question has been asked LOADS of time on here in the last week or so.

Set the topic above to "Computers" and look through them, you will find quite a few questions (and answers) for people looking for a "cheap" laptops for Xmas.

The price "low point" for a new laptop is about £300 so expect to pay that. Some people have found refurbished laptops from places like PC World and Currys at lower prices than that so check their web sites.

If it's only for internet and learning (and you've got a desktop or another laptop in the house) you might consider the Acer One or Asus Eee.

I've just bought an Acer One for my 11 year old daughter and she thinks it' great. She particularly liked the blue one. :)

I have bought my 10yr old son the Asus Eee. Perfect for what he needs it for.

Is it true that these type of devices dont come with a DVD player?

If so may be a problem is someone wants to watch a DVD movie?

Or can you buy an exteranl DVD player to fit them?

About the only 2 things you can upgrade on a laptop are the memory and the hard disk.

If you buy a laptop with 2Gb of memory that should be OK for Vista and the life of the laptop.

Hard disks comes as small as 80gb but as large as 250Gb or more.

If you are never going to download films from the internet even 80Gb will be fine. But if you go for the largest hard disk you can get then that should not need upgrading either.

It is very very difficult to upgrade the processor or the graphics card in a laptop, so memory and hard disk is about all you can upgrade.
