well If you are happy to pay the £35/£45/£55 a month tariff then just buy either an 8gb or 16gb from apple website using the voucher listed on here somewhere and get a 8gb one for around £250 or a 16gb for around £305 (go through quidco for another £5-£6 off) or if you don't want that rip off tariff then either unlock the phone yourself or get one off of ebay for around £300 for a 8gb or £350 for a 16gb one and put your own sim card in.

Would it be expensive to surf and use email on another network? I know the iphone tarrifs are expensive but it includes unlimited surfing and email?

obviously it depends on how much you use it but I've never actually had to use the EDGE/GPRS part of it, as everywhere I need to use it there is a wifi connection, using my Iphone at home it connects to my wifi connection, at work I just connect it to the wifi connection, when I go in town or the pub etc they all have a wifi connection, even mcdonalds have a wifi connection I can access the net/emails from all those wifi connections for free and at a faster speed than EDGE/GPRS.
