I was going to get a £10 bag and then maybe change to ID mobile later. Does this sound like the best option? All his friends use facetime so it has to be a iPhone :(

I've just bought a refurbished unlocked iPhone 6 off musicmagpie for my daughter. I did a lot of googling and found these the cheapest. They also had a 10% code off iPhones and I went through quidco so a bit of extra off. I was a little apprehensive as I wasn't sure what to expect, however, I absolutely cannot fault it, it looks brand new. The one thing it didn't come with was the plug, but we have a couple of those anyway x

I think you can get a refurbished iPhone 5S for much cheaper. I recall buying mine for around £100 in eBay a few months ago.

Might be worth a look if you are a BT customer, comes with a £100 Amazon gift card which you could use for buying other Christmas presents plus topcashback back £40. Works out in total (factoring in the cashback/gift card) over two years about £49more than you plan to spend with the £10 bag but it will include the text/calls/data for two years as well , so cheaper in the long run and a brand new phone, which at least would be guaranteed against faults for the first year.
Just a thought .

5S is a bit dated. I'm a fan of the SE, same form factor but far newer - the shelf life of the 5S is limited (updates etc), but the SE still has some mileage left. Not sure current prices but a 16gb may be in the same range (although I recommend 64gb if the budget stretches)

good price for unlock iPhone 5s. also you can check iPhone 5c wit
h o2 pay & go for £105 locked, no top up required (2% cash back with tcb/quidco). giffgaff will work on it.

Spend a bit more and get a 6 .

At least he aspires to a proper phone. :D

By him a cheap Xiaomi phone and add the IOS skin; if he is stupid enough to want an iPhone, he will be too stupid to notice.

(Waits to be flamed, but dammit!!)

'Almost Perfect' 5s is 149.99 on O2. (i think perfect are 199)
Follow instructions on previous HUKD thread to unlock and cancel o2 airtime agreement.
Have done this process twice and it works fine. Phones were in plain boxes, but immaculate condition and you get a warranty from o2.
