Pay monthly

If you’re on pay monthly, you need to have had the device you require to be unlocked for at least six months before you can have it unlocked. After that six months, if you’re within contract, the cost to unlock your device is £8.99. This charge will be applied to your account once the unlock code has been provided and will show on your next bill.

There are no charges to unlock your device once you’re out of contract with your device.

To be eligible for unlocking you must:

be the account holder for this device and phone numberhave had the device you require to be unlocked for at least six monthsensure your bill has been paid and your account is up to dateensure the device has not been reported as lost or stolen

If the phone was bought *from* Vodafone then only they will be able to unlock it, even if it is locked to EE. I had a similar thing happen with a Three SIM in an EE phone - even though it was locked to Three I had to request the unlock from EE as I got an error text when requesting the unlock via Three

Did you try just requesting the unlock or did you speak to someone and tell them it was locked to another network? I'm not convinced the other network will be able to unlock it. With my Three request I got an error message back which told me to contact Three - from there they said that they couldn't unlock the phone as it wasn't on file as part of their inventory - they quoted 'Orange' bizarrely.

I think you're stuck. Only the network it was bought from can officially unlock it through Apple. But is has to have been logged as used on that network for a request to be raised. As you bought from Voda but never used it on that network you're created a problem which most of the drones that work in CS at Voda can't solve as they don't have access to the right systems.
You might be able to get it unlocked from them if you can move up the chain and talk to a team leader, but you'd have to be lucky and find one that knows their way around their backend systems. Most don't!

I wasnt told by carphone warehouse that it would lock to the first network or i would have used vodafone sim first time.

From what I've been told it is in the small print of the paperwork they give you. But that's no help now.

You could try their Web Relations Team, they help through MSE.
The page is here; http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=14

You'd need to join the MES forum and post in the Voda Complaints/Query Thread right at the top of the page. Read the info on page one and post in the thread. They 'might' be able to do something. They are about the only team in Voda that give anything like real customer service.

Have you tried asking Apple ? It's their hardware with the restriction after all, explain the cicumstances, Apple might be expensive but they do have great service.
