I have an iPhone 6S plus which was purchased from new 2 months ago.

I like using the fingerprint reader to access the phone and confirm various functions (like purchasing from the App Store) but I'm finding it works most of the time but occasionally it doesn't work at all.

And it does at some point fail in this task. A reboot doesn't solve it and it simply just starts working again at some point after.

I did speak to apple (it is under warranty obviously) and they have said they think it's a software issue. (Which sounds feasible.) The suggested I waited to see if new IOS versions solve this problem. If I knew for a fact they were working on this issue and they had a time frame for a fix, I'd be ok with that, but I'm less than impressed with the response.

This does seem to be something that happens a lot and given it's the home touch button I'm a bit more concerned than I would be otherwise.

Anyone else have this issue or know of a workaround? Opinion of the "advise" I should just wait and hope the fix it?

Thanks in advance. And please don't use this as an android v apple troll fest. Or worst still - Blackberry! lol

When you link it to your computer and open iTunes it should all be self explanatory. Basically, you want to backup to computer and that way you have a copy of the backup on your computer. I know the answer doesn't help much but it will be fairly straight forward. Apple are good like that.

I can understand why people hate iTunes but this is one of the benefits of it and it works really well. Its worth a try.

Before you go back to Apple I'd suggest you backup your phone through iTunes and then do a factory reset and restore your data. That should get rid of most problems. Failing that resolves the problem, I'd take it back to Apple and get a replacement.
I have the 6s Plus and haven't had any issues at all. The new update works brilliantly with this phone.
Ok, though I'm one of those iTunes Haters and never connect the phone to a PC. ( and my iCloud storage is full too !)
I will give it a go,
Will do. As its never been iTuned before.... how do I make 100% sure it backs up everything and deletes nothing? I know it's easy to save photos... but unsure about texts and stuff like that. There's a fair bit I don't want to lose

One thing to add. When it's failing to detect a fingerprint, if I go into settings and try to add a fingerprint, it simply doesn't detect - or very little. It never completes a print capture.

I found with the 6 if my hands were sweaty or wet at all it would struggle. For best results i found was to use the same finger for all 5 prints that you can save

Ta for that. Yes I understand it can struggle in those circumstances, but this isn't the reason here. The reader simply decided not to play ball even if I make sure the button is wiped clean and fingers in pristine condition.

I'd check to see if people have the same issue with the iphone 7 to see if it's an ios fault or just an issue with the iphone 6s plus hardware. If the iphone 7 doesn't have the same issue then try your luck and take it back and ask for a refund. Then see if you can get a offer on the iphone 7.

Thanks for the link. I have actually done this "fix" a few times, especially after IOS updates. The option for a refund isn't viable. The phone was an unwanted vodafone upgrade which I bought sealed for £450

Will do. As its never been iTuned before.... how do I make 100% sure it backs up everything and deletes nothing? I know it's easy to save photos... but unsure about texts and stuff like that. There's a fair bit I don't want to lose

I finally did the back up. I know I lost a couple of things, but seems to be ok now.

I had a long conversation again On Saturday. The long and the short, I was given a replacement.

The print thing seems ok now, but this so called "new" phone has a poor touch screen especially on the space bar and letters n and m which I have to over emphasise to get the keystroke registered.

They also replace my iPad air2 which also had touch screen problems which they were unable to repair so gave me a replacement.

That seems like half a result... see how it goes with the new screen and then if its not resolved you have every right to take it back.

Stop press.

Rather strangely the issue with the letter n not typing has mysteriously vanished! I have no idea why or how. I've not done anything I'm aware to do anything.

Went to Bluewater with my iPhone and the tech guy saw it playing up. Went off to do some tests which the problem was replicated. In view of the fact the replacement was 6 days old, he agreed to swap out again rather than make me wait for a new screen. (Just as well as I'd have argued to get a new one.)

While I was in there I witnessed the guy who messed me about last Saturday be on the receiving end of an abusive customer who wanted support from others around. "Just fix my effing phone!" He was eventually escorted to the door having been there (he said) for over 3 hours. He was then claiming he'd been assaulted by a staff member who he claimed "touched him". Me and this other fella he wanted help from eventually snuck out when the coast was clear! He was nigh foaming at the mouth!

And so far, touch screen and finger print sensor behaving properly - even after putting a back up on it.

Incidentally, these so called new phones have IOS 9 on them. They gotta be refurbished right?
