My advice is, got to Belfast, cheaper, as nice or more so than Dublin, you don't have to change your money, very friendly city but less touristy than Dublin. Check it out online.

Try air b'n'b

Check Groupon and select the local area as Dublin. IMO you'd get better value staying up north though with the Euro up against the pound.
Ireland is small though and you could get a car over on the ferry and do the big attractions in under a week, all towns and cities are easily walkable but a car is best to get around between them. Note that you can prebook a bus from Belfast to Dublin cheap enough, or drive it in less than 2 hours.

Malahyde and Hoath are both on the coast and also on the Dart link into Dublin.

Try the below two have stayed in both.

BrackenCourt - Balbriggan

The CourtYard - Leixlip

Also the below "Irish Groupon kinda site"
Dealrush.ie

Or slightly further afield but with really great prices for both hotels and food/drink compared to Dublin. Athlone 2/3rd way West from Dublin towards Galway plenty of travel links to let you enjoy both cities.
The Prince Of Wales Hotel - Athlone

Radisson Blu - Athlone

Have plenty of photos and stayed in all these hotels if you need any guidance after booking etc. Found own websites always to be cheaper than any booking sites but also pop them a call and ask if anything cheaper or any offers cheaper than you have found on website is always worthwhile.
Staying anytime Sun-Thursday is the cheapest. Fri/Sat stays the most expensive.

Esplanade Hotel in Bray Wicklow is a nice seaside town on coast easy to get to and from Dublin via the Dart , Howth is nice fishing town worth visit while using Dart - hop on and off train.
Bray has Sealife centre +
