Iron for the missus!

UltimoScorpion Avatar
banned9y, 1m agoPosted 9 years, 1 month ago
OK looking for a new iron, the missus has (once again) broke her super-duper all singing all dancing iron (cost £95!). It was one of those steam generator dubries, however she has tried one of those and doesn't like em (so no generator please). I'm sick and tired of spending several 100 pounds on a yearly basis on irons so looking for around the £30 mark, can go more, but I want a long lasting easily maintained one that irons the clothes with the greatest of ease.

Any 'personal use' comments greatfully accepted.

P.S. bought her one of those £3.97 ones from Tesco for now....and she's not happy. :giggle:

Cos she one of these muppets that spends £300 on something that you can pick up from another store for £200 cheaper. She cant be trusted with money, she will admit herself she is useless in that department

I tell everyone i know about it, Takes her less than half the time to do the ironing now!!

We got a Polti about 4years ago and its still going strong.

I am sure this has already occurred to you but all appliances are guaranteed for at least one year without warranties. I would definitely be looking for a replacement or money back in under one year.

I contacted AEG when my washer blew up after only 15months (no warranty). I was livid but very polite and told customer services that I was not happy with the quality of their goods and I had expected it to last longer. They understood and said out of goodwill, replaced my machine with much better model. They were embarrassed. Not bad for the price of a phone call. That was a few yrs ago now, I am sure AEG have been taken over a few times since then and such goodwill probably no longer exists

Yeah it has a 1 yr warranty and it broke 1 yr and 2 days, or something like typical like that. The Steam Generator ones do work well and she liked it when she first got it, but she doesn't like it now. She wants to go back to a normal one now.

Are you not able to iron? I would be ashamed of myself if I couldn't iron, cook, clean and wash clothes and had to rely on someone else to do it for me

ROFL! Thats where you're wrong, I'm on my second (and final) marriage with 6 kids between us. Talking about a womans 'place' is very sexist. Men and women are equal (although that message obviously hasn't reached you yet) and I'd be ashamed if I couldn't do everything a woman can do (except have babies) if not as well as, better than.
I feel sorry for your downtrodden wife with her obviously poor self esteem.

From the title of this thread and the posts so far it would appear that the 'men' are actually incapable of looking after themselves. Gone from mummy to wifey to take care of them.

The point I've been attempting to make (before allowing myself to descend into ad hominem comments) is that the title of this thread and the comments about wifey doing womenly stuff are sexist. May seem fairly innocous but its the thin end of the wedge, like Jim Davidson and Bernard Mannings oh so funny jokes about black people. Claimed to be just a bit of a laugh but in point of fact the subject matter was not in the least funny.
#27
Mike,
You claim "ad hominem" then go on to mention others such as the late great "Bernard Manning" is this not being a little bit self contradictive......

Anyway I see the man as
"the giver" and the woman as "the taker" if you see where I am "coming" from, or maybe from where you stand you would not see where I am "coming" from. Depends if you are a giver or a taker I suppose.!
(I am talking about providing for of course):giggle:

I looked at this thread because I need a new iron too......seems to have got lost a bit in other things though! Any more good prices on irons folks as mine is making a weird sound and isn't going to last out much longer!!!

Your view depends on whether you believe in yea olde fashioned womans place is at home, mans place is out earning. I don't subscribe to that view, I believe that men and women are equal and certainly everyone I work with professionally and that I socialise with have that view. The 'women' earn just as much as the 'men' and household chores are done jointly.

That depends on whether the humour being displayed is actually funny or if its offensive. Would you consider racist jokes to be funny? Maybe you would but you need a certain kind of courage to say so in public (and these forums are public). I find that threads which denigrate womens place to be subserviant to 'men' to be pretty offensive. I also believe that 'men' who are unable to take care of themselves are not 'men' by any definition. They may be male but they're not men.

Rather than trying to be a wannabe mod, why don't you contact the real thing and air your disgust and dissapointment that such a thread is on a public forum.

If they agree with you then we are all wrong and they will delete it. If you are indeed wrong then the thread will stay and you can move on to saving the planet and join the W.I.
