After looking around the Boardman Carbon looks the best to me, just a bit wary of Halfords, any other suggestions appreciated.
Sorry for the long link:

Click on the globe and paste the link in the pop up box. When you click OK, the link will appear with highlighted text in the message box. Change the highlighted text to whatever you wish

p.s. Nice Bike. My employer is about to roll out the cycle scheme where you get reductions on up to £2k worth of Bike and Accessories, so will be watching this thread with interest

Not being funny but if I was spending £1K on a bike I'd be asking this question on cycling forum not here.

Good point, but from my experience there do seem to be a lot of knowledgable bikers here (hopefully!).

Moved to correct forum

The boardman bikes are fairly well known to be of excellent quality with far more 'bang for your buck' than any equivilent model. If you are spending that much, take a look at this http://www.boardmanbikes.com/road/road_LTD.html
same price but just a little more special. we have one in our shop just now, its nice

The Boardman comp gets a great review here....

http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/bikes/road/product/team-carbon-09-33934

Heres a link to the road bike forum ojn the same site

http://www.bikeradar.com/road/forums/index.php?c=4

This also got good praise

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Focus_Cayo_105_2009/5360037591/

PS don't be too wary of buying from halfords, Considering they sell a third of all bikes sold in the UK they must being doing something right. when You pick it up, ride it round the car park outside, go through every gear and test the breaks, fiddle with things and if your not happy take it back in and have them adjust it until you are satisfied.

Also bear in mind, that cables will stretch as they bed in, but you get the free six week check at halfords, so any adjustments it needs will be done then, as above, take outside and check it.

At my local branch the technicians are excellent and very knowledgeable, but maybe no all stores have such good staff, If you find this to be the case, take it to LBS and have them services it.

My suggestions are they are a premium because of the name and thats ok as long as you are aware.

Try your local 'good' bike shop. I mean someone who has 2-300 bikes in stock and ask for the spec. Then visit halfords and compare the spec. Its not as hahard as you might think.

I do this and my local in berkshire are very knowledgable and are alwaysd busy. Plus they care and will be great for after sales service.

Berkshire bikes if you are interested.

Halfords maybe the best place but check the spec first so you know.

Never seen that comment before on a UKHD bike thread....Congratulation on your originality.

it's really obvious that you've applied a lot of logic to your reasoning....well done.

And its quite sad that you obviously get some kind of satisfaction out of trying to belittle people

Good man

A grand isn't too bad really, that's only 4 times an ultra basic heap for something that's likely to last a whole lot longer. Rolexes go for a lot more than 4 times a Zeon.
