Just cancelled Virgin Media services

Last night I tried to negotiate a better deal for my current package, TV, Internet and Phone, and was getting nowhere. All that was offered was a reduction in my package which then reduced the cost, so I've now cancelled all my services and received confirmation of this by email.

I was told I need to return all of their equipment including cables.

I now have a few questions.

What are my chances of VM phoning me within the next 30 days to offer me a deal?

If I don't get a call by the 28th day I have thought of calling them to ask them not to disconnect the internet. I assume it will be easy for them to do this. However, will I be charged a reconnection fee, even though it will not have been disconnected at that time.

My other option is to go cold turkey with no internet in the hope that they phone me after I've been cut off as others have said has happend to them. However, I'm not sure how they will phone me as they will be disconnecting my phone and I don't think they have my mobile number.

I phoned Virgin to cancel and they offered me about £10 off at the time (down to about £65) but said I was still leaving.

However, I had to phone them up again about a week or 2 later to get details on how to return the equipment and they offered an extra £10 again (down to about £55). I declined as I said the price from BT was about £42, which they weren't willing to match.

Basically, if you really don't want to leave then phone them up (make up a reason why you are phoning e.g. checking disconnection date, returning equipment etc) and they'll probably try to convince you to stay again by offering a better deal.

Start looking for other good deals in your area, wait until a week before and if u don't hear from VM just order for whom ever, you'll be a new customer so u should get a good deal.

Your intention to terminate the contract is the notice period. Your contract doesn't end until that day so effectively you are a customer and connected until that last day of notice. So I would say no unless they have some snide clause in their contract and I can't see that.......Oh wait a minute it's Virgin.... Maybe I should check that with Mike Oldfield.

They usually fone 48 hrs after u cancel. But I left them for over charging and taking more money out of my account. They wanted £28 just for broadband. If u send the box back. They refund the cost I the box.

Can we ask what package you where on.

You might of been on the cheapest they can do at the moment hence the reason why cancellations couldn't offer you a there and then offer.

Like many have said your contract only end when the day the services are disconnected.

What am I missing? They offered you better to which you said no but you still want to stay with them? Did someone get heated on the phone?

I'm not convinced it works the way you're hoping its going to. Virgin are BY FAR the best ISP available for the UK in terms of both speed, reliability and repair should anything go or be wrong for you. They upgrade their network often and for the areas they cover - have definitely the fastest connection available by a decent margin.
When signing up for a new contract with them since moving into my student house in September I mentioned that we would only require broadband but had no intention of paying too much and had seen deals with other companies for X amount, they said they could match that and now I'm paying £35/m for 270mbs connection which I'm more than happy about. Previous year BT was £40/m for 40-70mbs and we had disconnection, ping and speed issues all year however we could not get virgin in the area at the time.
You could try to request a new contract after cancelling your current as companies often favour new customers with deals.

Not sure if already mentioned but see what's on offer for new customers and if needed find someone who is able to setup just in case and then if the new customer deal is better offer explain to Virgin it's their choice either close my account or give me the same as a new customer otherwise you'll just be creating a new account for this reason.

Has worked 2 times for me

They did not offer me better. They wanted to reduce the amount of TV channels and broadband speed and reduce the cost this way.

When I cancelled, they didn't offer me much of an incentive to stay with them.
I think, part of the reason, is that they are over subscribed for broadband in my area and are struggling with the infrastructure.

Thanks for the reply. Yes you should be able to get some discount on that. How ever you be looking at a discount applied for 6 months or if your lucky 12 months. I have Full house tv with skysports and 200mb anytime phone and that's at £69 a month.

You should of gone through to relations which deal with people wanting to leave virgin. Made some deal that sky are basically offering what your on at the moment but for £25 cheaper then you could of got a discount there and the.

But see what happens in a couple of days they might phone might not. Good luck

Had a call back today, 2 days after giving my 30 days disconection notice. Keeping my original package, but reduced to £57 per month. Also getting V6 box for free, which they usually charge existing customers £99 for and new Superhub. Not the best deal out there but a saving that i'm happy with.
