A while back my Retroarch app stopped working and I assumed it got blocked.

Thanks

Will I have to set it up from scratch?
#4
Unfortunately yes. Maybe wait and see if anybody had any other ideas first but if all else fails this should fix the problem. I'm quite knowledgable with kodi but not the fire stick itself so see if anybody else has any suggestions first

Before you uninstall try going into the app settings menu and clear the cache.

Oh yeah I tried that, then it comes on saying something like 'kodi is starting for the first time', but then still boots me back the the firestick menu
#8
Realise it's obvious, but have you tried powering off the firestick to reset it?

As others have said, you may need to reinstall.
#9
I will suggest go to settings clear cache and data see if it work's

When did you last use the stick? And do you know what version of Kodi it is? This is what made me start my YouTube channel off helping people with the stick because at the time nobody was using them. I'm using the FireTV box now, find it so much better and faster

Did you install AppStarter or something similar like firestopper or autobots when you installed Kodi on to your stick?

I used to have firestarter but just dont see the reason for it now that kodi will show up in apps / home.

Here is one big reason. How do you know when a new version of kodi is out and how do you install new version. With firestarter/stopper you have version check and a simple click to install update version. Without this you will have to check yourself and side load again.

FireStarter has been replaced with AppStarter. You can use it to update or to install Kodi/SPMC. So in this case you'd uninstall Kodi and then launch AppStarter to install Kodi/SMPC.

Then you install your favourite build and install super repo and your all good to go.

Thanks I've restarted it through the menu but I haven't unplugged it, I'll try that

I'd say Riverdragon hit the nail on the head. I looked at one for a stupid work colleague who had bought a "fully loaded" device off ebay. It had the same symptoms as OP and was down to Kodi version 16.0 soon as updated to 16.1 away it went (think that's the current version numbers I use SPMC myself) Ohh it is from Riverdragons screenshot!

Hi I last used it a week or so ago. When it comes on it briefly says on the screen version 14 point something I think. I'll check again

AppStarter is a way to install or to update your Kodi/SPMC to the latest version.

Same here although the other way around but because of hardware. Kodi on a firestick as secondary device and Paradox on SPMC for the Shield. Beast build on my PC.
Opps forgot a device lol. Self build on mobile Nexus 6P. Hate having too many addons on my phone as with not really using it much with weeks between even opening the app it becomes a pain all the updates each time you open so I keep it down to three addons just.

If I was to stop using Paradox as my main build I would probably move on to the Pulse CCM build.

Try Overlord Build also quite like it as a build as well and good if you have the overlord IPTV sub. Also has a stand alone for android and some mag style box's. Personally use the stand alone for the IPTV on the Shield as on Kodi/SPMC the addon has a habit of freezing in the epg and you have to force close but the stand alone doesn't have the same issue. Off work this week so starting my venture into creating my own build :).

Ohh on Paradox I take it you have found the apk part also which I think is a neat feature. Overlord also has similar although adds some more apk's for the emulators which always works well for a Shield.

I would be very very careful scanning any QR code. QR codes simply take you to a website address and can also perform something on that website like create an activation code. They are very very commonly used to take you to a suspicious site and install spyware/virus onto the device you are using to scan the code. QR codes can also be made for "Direct calling QR" which can make your phone ring a number by simply scanning the code, said number off course being a premium rate number. You never know what a QR code could do until you scan. It might be handy for some things but because of the amount of scams associated with it unless it has came from a trusted source/company I certainly will not be scanning. This also helps "bump up" website traffic which also allows higher revenue streams from selling advertising and such.

Yeah you need to install the latest version of Kodi, it's actually a wonder it has been working for this long already quite a few addons stopped working on that version last year.
Onto the next part, have you installed Kodi onto a firestick before and also do you have access to a windows pc/laptop?. Everyone has their own preferences but I much prefer using the PC ADB method than the apps2fire method from a mobile or the es file explorer method.

Hi. Yes it's been working up until recently, I didn't use it for quite a while but recently had another go with it. I had Genesis on it which no streams worked, then it updated itself to Exodus and was working well :)

I set it up myself around a year or so ago by following an online guide. Yes I used one of those apps2fire type apps :)

No bother. Rather than pushing kodi directly to the device push appstarter instead. Then press the update Kodi button within appstarter.

Github AppStarter

Different options guides
Just remember when you get to point 5 rather than choosing the kodi apk choose the Appstarter one from above. Then update Kodi within Appstarter rather than pushing the apk.

Would also recommend the Paradox Wizard build and inside of it if you head into the Kodi Programs addon and then Paradox addon you will see other apk sitting. Find this handy and inside of it you will find the likes of Mobdro and other stand alone android apk's that you would normally have to side load. You will also find a couple of the emulators like the program you had before as well.

Sorry just to add. When you have a wizard style build install try and uninstall any of the addons which you never use, always best to have light as possible. Another tip for the firestick would be to head into kodi and set your addons updates to "no" then pick a time when you are switching the device on and in no hurry to watch something then head and do the updates manually. Kodi can get itself into a twist on a slower device if it is trying to install an update to an addon that you are currently sitting in. Plus don't we all hate switching something on and having to wait on updates.

Yeah, I think that's how it's been for me sometimes also, it wouldn't work first time then would work second. Not working at all now though :/
Just had a thought - could it possibly be because it's only being powered by a 1A USB port ?

From my experience under powering causes the whole device to perform "random reboots" not just kicking you out of an app but an entire reboot. Does seem to be total random and not linked to even doing anything. So far when doing any for friends using the same TV which I know works fine plugging via usb power I've narrowed it down to all those that use voice remotes for some reason. Never had a non-voice remote stick show the random reboot behaviour.

Na, shouldn't be. I run mine off the USB port on my TV and it's always been fine even though on boot it sometimes says 'not enough power' but loads anyway.

Thats a little video showing you how to install Pulse build. It seems to be the most popluar one at the moment and my personal favourite, but don't install it unless your on Kodi 16.1 Jarvis as it doesn't tend to work well on the out of date Kodi's.
Bob Unrestricted is now on the build, thats brilliant for TV and films

BOB recently released and has a few of the old Phoenix crew.
