yeah i am also in the same situation. If u are talking about the £499 Acer laptop u saw in amazon, then never expect that again coz i was also planning to buy that same one but got an email from amazon saying they may not stock that product again coz of its low demand.
Ebuyer have the Acer 5920G in several variations of spec, none with 3gb of ram but still quite decent specs.

If it's anything like the Aspire 7520 then the quality won't be great.

What sort of development work are you doing? Does the laptop need to have any specific features?
Dont buy the Acer, unless if you are looking for a laptop for around 350 quids, low-low/medium range laptops. You might want to consider an Asus a better make, with two years of warranty or one of the Toshiba's with money back gaurantee ....
Just realized you had put the question around one week back but if you are still out purchasing try the following HP model
HP 6820S - GR714ET#ABU
you should still be able to get this under 510
Just over £300 - HP Laptop, huge widescreen crystal display, inbedded Webcam, 2GB memory etc

Best lappy I've ever had :)
