i highly suggest going for a dell XPS M1530 (15 inch is best TBH)

go with a good chip like the 8600GT ( I HAVE IT!!) :D
and a good CPU and 2gb ram = fun gaming!!

Though really dpeneds wha games.. if its like sim2 or whatever dont really need to push the boat out with a "gaming PC"

This sort of thing is what you're looking at if you're serious about laptop gaming, that'll give you similar performance to a £700 desktop machine with a 4850 so it should handle most games.

There are 15" gaming laptops with a single 8800M GTX availible I believe if 17" is too big.

I don't know about efficiency but gaming machines tend to be pretty power hungry generally.

At £750 you can forget really good on a laptop, something like the 9600M GT should be adaquate though.

Try to avoid the 8600M chips if you can as they seem to have a high failure rate: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Apple/?p=2164
