Morning Everyone.

Ive read through some of the recent laptop Ask and they dont answer what im asking as they are just for surfing use.

My Dell Inspiron N5110 15r i7 gave up the ghost last week. I suspect it is the motherboard as it just randomly switched off after burning a disk, doesnt power on, i did the remove battery and hold the power button to reset the ram, no lights come on when the AC is plugged in but the charger is fine.

I did look to replace the motherboard (£130 for parts) but it is about 4 years old and maybe i could get a new one.

Im looking to start working from home so would need a laptop that allows me to use AutoCad which i guess is demanding? What the goods brands out at the moment? Budget is about £500-600 but dont mind going higher if it is worth it. I did look at Mac but for my budget, the bigger screens are way too expensive.

Would appreciate some help on a good laptop.

Thanks

You would want a laptop with decent RAM like 8GB, a good laptop to look at is the Lenovo YOGA series. They are a great laptop and the build quality has to be the best out there.

I believe it can be very demanding for the more complex models/scenes, but not so much for the less complex ones.

Looking up your current laptop it appears as if the most common configuration that meets your description had Intel's higher power i7-2670QM. If that is the case then you're going to have very limited choice of a modern equivalent within budget as the Q models generally start around there.

If you do search for "best laptop for autocad use" there's quite a bit of advice.

Got a Lenovo Y510p SLI (2 x graphics cards version) if interested in a 2nd hand one? Would be looking for about £280

If you really interested in Mac then buy led monitor with 13" macbook air. It will save you fortune especially if you working from home. I bought hp led monitor for £100 and my 10 year old macbook is brand new especially with 10.2 update. Mac does hold value well
