To put it another way. I am an IT technician who does small jobs for friends, family and who ever needs the help. I buy laptops and do them up like new and as it's a hobby just charge the bare minimum. if you read the reply it was an open statement which was not asking directly for your address but asked if 'people' would put area if 'anyone' (anyone being not necessarily me) If I came across as creepy then Appologies but sometimes it's in the head of the the person that actually thinks it's creepy. I will now move on but to be honest you have put me off trying to help 'people' so I don't think I'll bother in future.
Maybe it's your username 'drtongue' that makes you come off creepy, you might as well call yourself the 'undietaker' or 'sexmachine' lol X)
TBH I would love to be called sexmachine, walking down the street and people saying 'Hey sexmachine' and I nod my head to them and say 'How you doing' :)

Spend £50 on a i3 or something and install linux. I did this for my brother and he's very happy with it. Maybe also buy a SSD drive to add ingsome speed another £50.

It's really not as hard as you think, just download, burn a dvd and boot into it on the laptop.

Acts like it sometimes, but he had very little computer experience. I showed him where to find the browser, where to find office and how to play a video. Today Linux is almost like using windows, the only way it can be messed up is when installing programmes and I don't see a kids doing that. Take a look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-e48n4xcGA

I have a HP i3 that i bought 4 years ago. It had updated to windows 10 and was driving me mad so started looking to buy a new laptop, I even picked one out at £1300 but I asked for a discount and was only offered 5%. So I left it and then decided to swap out the Hard drive on my old laptop with a 250gb SSD drive because I got one cheap. I thought I would give Linux a try and pick a version call Klinux. I'm very glad I did, I know edit photos and play video with no issues. Still was a breeze too. Now when I have use windows it kills me :-)

Would be good if when writing a message for help people put where they roughly are. That way if anyone local can help they will.

It was a general comment for help with computers. if you do not trust anyone that's fine. good luck.

OP have you considered purchasing a 2nd hand HP 2570p EliteBook? Very solid and reliable systems plus they are a doodle to upgrade as well via a large maintenance panel at the base of the laptop - just thought I'd chuck that out there for consideration, as you can get them for roughly £150 on eBay UK, which would leave you money to upgrade further if you wanted to i.e. RAM, SSD, 2nd HDD Caddy and 1TB HDD for additional storage, etc, etc.

It's a refurb but if anything goes wrong with it it comes with 1 year warranty. Returns are easy, all you do is print off a label for free return.
