Laptop or Netbook?

Hi all, really need a new machine for my business. Infact i am using a netbook at this stage so i am having a lot of difficulty.

I have a budget of £200 to £300 and would really like a decent spec machine to handle most things.

Any suggestions?

You might want to consider having a decent desktop system and a netbook for use on the road.

Myself I have a similar set-up but also have a couple of netbooks, for when I'm working on contracts for clients (unfortunately they've all dried up due to the state of the economy! lol).

Cheers, Scotty Boy! ;)

BTW you mentioned a high-spec system - what's the basic requirements you need i.e. screen size, operating system, hard drive size, etc.

Edit - Do you have any existing computer hardware and software that use for your business?

To be honest, ive run the business entirely from a netbook.

I like the idea of using the netbook for the road and getting a desktop for home use

Id love windows 7, a big hard drive of atleast 160gb, 19 inch screen

If your going for netbooks I'd go for one with a larger screens like an acer aspire one. Go on eBay for under 200 with 250gb hdd and 2gb ram

Based upon what you've listed you'll need to consider increasing your budget or splitting the purchases over - if you go for the later you could purchase a netbook (10" plus screen but would recommend at least an 11.6" screen for travelling purposes) along with an external screen, keyboard & mouse to plug it into at your business office.

Edit - If I were you I would suggest looking at your budget to see what you can squeeze out of it but also look online at open box stock to try and get a saving out of your purchases. Sites to consider would Amazon UK (the Warehouse Deals & the Market Place Resellers) along with Misco (Open Box Stock) as examples.

There was a deal for them listed here on HUKD but the problem is the older Acer Aspire One 751 model has a few issues with regards to the screen cracking quite easily and also system lock-ups - the issues were addressed with later model releases but you have to be aware of it before purchasing along with the fact that the CPU is a lower-end Intel Atom based model, which is designed more for energy efficiency rather than power (they can be overclocked though).

I believe you can buy a laptop connector

so referring to Scotty Boys quote you only need to spend on a laptop (i guess you already have a monitor)

250 gb sorry. I was selling it on eBay but a low feedback buyer has bid

You might want to check out the links I've added into this post on HUKD - bear in mind that the CPUs present within these netbooks are early generation based models and are not that powerful but should be up to the job for doing basic business tasks on (your call at the end of the day, so if you consider them you should strongly research them before purchasing).

No sorry i think many have got confused by what i posted.

I already have a netbook and i was just saying i like using it when i am away from home. I would like to have a desktop pc for home and prefer to buy that at the moment.

Also i was thinking of building a desktop. I already have windows somewhere so i wouldnt need an OS but i am not in touch with what the best parts are etc and what i would need to purchase.

I can stretch my budget to £320 max. Could i build something reasonably good in this price?

Ahhhhh! That makes sense now - in that case your best to check out tower based systems, so at least you have expansion capabilities (i.e. additional bays for hard disks, etc) if you need it for covering business growth.

Are you considering going for corporate computer systems (i.e. Dell, HP, etc) so you can get additional warranty coverage in place so the hardware can be quickly repaired.
